This naturalist-guided hike will feature a variety of spring ephemerals blooming along Shallenberger’s wooded trail. In addition to wildflower identification, the two-hour program will cover historical uses for native plants and the geologic features of this scenic preserve.

The April 20 program is restricted to 15 hikers; interested participants must register by emailing Raeley.Maxwell@dnr.ohio.gov. Attendees will meet in the parking lot on 2468 Becks Knob Road SW in Lancaster.

Located in Fairfield County, Shallenberger State Nature Preserve is a delight for both geology and wildflower enthusiasts. The preserve protects the Allen and Ruble knobs, which are promontories of highly resistant Black Hand sandstone.
