David Hague and Tammy Miller from the Coyote Run and the Bill and Joyce Hague Nature Preserves have been working on clearing invasive plant species from Sycamore Creek Park (Covered Bridge Lane) in Pickerington since January. They have progressed along the creek from Lockville Road to just shy of the covered bridge.

Hague is asking for community members to join them on Sunday for a few hours to help clear more woods ahead of the Pickerington Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 20. During the Cleanup, Hague and Miller will be organizing the planting of hundreds of native trees in the areas where the invasive plants have been removed.

The trees are being donated to the city of Pickerington from Green Columbus, the Hague Foundation, the Pickerington Lions Club and the Eagle Scout project of Anna Gasser of BSA Troop 256.

If you are interested in volunteering this Sunday, please email David Hague at tmfp@icloud.com. Volunteers must be 16 or older and will need sturdy footwear and work gloves. Tools will be provided. Meet just east of the covered bridge on March 24 at 1 pm and plan on working for around 2 hours.

Hague will also be leading a group of volunteers and city of Pickerington staff during the city’s separate Earth Day cleanup on the morning of Friday, April 19. For the city’s event, volunteer space is limited but you can ask to participate by calling (614) 837-3974.
