In 2023, Pickerington Online’s fifth most popular story was the rezoning of the former Wetherell Dairy property at 8185 Pickerington Road.
The rezoning allowed the property (owned by the city of Pickerington) to be developed as a planned district. The city proposed the land be crafted into distinct zones: a retail section, a senior citizen condominium community, single-family homes and open space along Sycamore Creek.
The property remains unchanged since most of the buildings were demolished last summer.
When asked via email if developers have made offers on the property, Pickerington City Manager Greg Butcher answered “N/A”.
In regard to how soon the city anticipates the property being developed, he replied “TBD”.
Furthermore, there has been no decision on how the area along the creek will be utilized.
Pickerington uses the land as a compost pile of sorts. The service department deposits the annual leaf collection there each fall for farmers to claim in the spring. In addition, a portion of the property has become a burial ground for the city’s roadkill.
