Pickerington Police March 3-16, 2024

March 3

3:02 pm A 57-year-old man living in the Turnberry Apartments told police that his ex-wife’s son (37 years old) allegedly came to his home and began demanding that he come outside. When he refused, the younger man began to yell insults and attempted to break through the door. There appeared to be damage to the deadbolt. The younger man left but allegedly returned later and bent a wiper blade on the resident’s Audi.

8:18 am The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department asked all available units to assist in locating a five-year-old girl who was missing from a home that caught fire in Richland Township. A 38-year-old Logan man, John Beckman, who had stayed the night with the family was suspected of kidnapping the child.

The suspect was believed to have left on foot and officers were warned that he might have a rifle. Pickerington officers joined the county SWAT as they searched the nearby woods. Authorities were preparing to issue an Amber Alert when the Kentucky State Police located the suspect with the girl near Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

8:25 pm Mackenzie River Pizza called police to report that a man was sleeping in the grass outside the restaurant. Officers allegedly roused the 59-year-old Blacklick man and asked him if he had any alcohol recently. The man answered that he had drank 12 Miller Lites.

9:41 pm A resident in the Redwood Community behind the police station reported that a man and a woman were parked in a Nissan Altima in front of his home and appeared to be having an argument. When police arrived, the vehicle allegedly drove away and initially refused to pull over.

When the car eventually stopped, officers used a public address speaker to tell the driver to exit his vehicle. They discovered that the man, a 20-year-old from Whitehall, had a restraining order issued against him that prohibited him from being in contact with the vehicle’s passenger, a 17-year-old Whitehall girl.

Seeing the man placed in handcuffs, the girl allegedly became irate and started screaming and throwing objects. She was wanted on a warrant out of Franklin County.

March 5

7:35 am Tools were reported stolen from the Sheetz construction site.

  

 

March 6

8:26 am An 18-year-old Pickerington man told police that a former friend of his (a 19-year-old from Cherry Hill) was sending derogatory messages about him, his girlfriend and his baby. The man said that his friend had issues with him ever since the caller threw a half pound of the friend’s marijuana out a car window last August.

8:35 pm A 41-year-old Columbus man was pulled over for allegedly driving over the concrete barrier to turn left illegally from Steak-n-Shake onto southbound Hill Road. He had a temporary driving permit.

March 7

7:31 pm A black Honda Passport allegedly hit a Silver Chevrolet Malibu near the intersection of Hill Road and Interstate 70 then fled the scene. Witnesses took photos of the vehicle and recorded the license plate number.

March 8

1:48 am Story Point Senior Living called the police to report that an unknown man had fallen asleep in their vestibule. Police arrived and roused the sleeper (a 59-year-old Reynoldsburg man) who allegedly smelled of alcohol. When asked why he chose to sleep in the entryway of a retirement community, the man said that he had just been walking along Main Street and decided to find a place to stay. He told them he lived just a few miles down the road.  Police informed him that he was not in Reynoldsburg.

3:20 am Two Columbus boys (aged 16 and 12) were arrested for allegedly stealing a Hyundai Sonata from Columbus after police caught the vehicle driving the wrong direction on Diley Road.

7:03 am A Kia Rio was reported stolen from the Manchester neighborhood.

9:36 am A 55-year-old man from Colony Park reported that the license plate was missing from his Jeep.

3:20 pm Columbus police arrested a 33-year-old Columbus woman on a warrant out of Pickerington. They met the Pickerington Police at the Home Depot in Canal Winchester to transfer the woman to the Fairfield County Jail. The woman fought the police and tried to spit on them. Officers allegedly also found illegal drugs.

7:28 pm An officer pulled over a Kia Spectra near the corner of Refugee Road in possession of illegal and Stonecreek Drive for driving without working taillights and no visible plate. The driver, an 18-year-old Columbus man, had a permit but no license.

March 9

8:45 am An employee of Complete Home Health care called police to escort a 41-year-old Pickerington man from their lobby. She said that although he had not threatened anybody, he had just used a “large knife to scrape something off his phone”.

11:22 am A 67-year-old Pickerington man reported that last September a coworker at Amazon asked to borrow $3,000 to purchase a vehicle. A month later, the friend asked to borrow more money for fuel. The Pickerington man said that he leant the coworker his bank card.

Since then, the man has allegedly not repaid the money, nor has he returned the bank card. Bank records indicate that he has charged about $2,000. The Pickerington man recently canceled the card.

9:21 pm A 21-year-old Columbus man told police that a 47-year-old Violet Township man driving a GMC Sierra aggressively tailgated his BMW M3 – flashing his brights and repeatedly hitting his horn. The younger man said that he pulled over to let the man pass, but the truck also pulled over and the driver exited his vehicle. The Violet Township man allegedly began pounding on the window claiming that the younger man pulled out in front of him when he exited Fiiz’s lot onto Columbus Street.

March 10

10:56 pm A Toyota Corolla was pulled over on Refugee Road near Melody Lane after an officer allegedly clocked it driving 61 mph on Hill Road. The driver, a 28-year-old Columbus man, did not have a license.

March 11

6:39 am An Acura MDX was pulled over on Windmiller Drive near Gray because the car was registered to a 52-year-old Pickerington man wanted on a warrant.

5:55 pm A 33-year-old Columbus woman was pulled over on Long Road after her Honda Civic was allegedly clocked at 54 mph in a 25-mph zone. Her license expired.

5:56 pm A couple from Maple Heights who are suspected of robbing multiple Kohl’s stores, were allegedly caught on a video (dated February 18, 2024) taking Sephora fragrances and children’s clothing without paying.

9:44 pm Police arrested a 21-year-old Pickerington woman on a warrant out of Lancaster after she was allegedly caught throwing objects at the window of an apartment in Overland Park.

March 12

12:01 am A 30-year-old Canal Winchester man was pulled over on Long Road near Colony Park for allegedly driving 42 mph in a 25-mph zone. He produced an “International Driver’s License” that he later admitted he had fabricated.

8:23 pm An officer pulled over a Ford Taurus on Refugee Road near Windmiller for allegedly driving without taillights. The license plate, which was positioned in the back window, was initially illegible due to the tinted glass. When dispatch ran the plate, it came back as belonging to a Nissan.

The driver, a 30-year-old Dayton man, was wanted on a warrant from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Two stolen identification cards were allegedly recovered from the vehicle.

9:45 pm At Kroger on Hill Road, Police located an 81-year-old man who was reported missing from Isonville, KY. He was disoriented and his Toyota Tacoma had been damaged.

March 13

11:51 am Enterprise Rent-A-Car reported a Chevrolet Spark stolen after the 35-year-old Pickerington woman who rented it, never returned it.

12:47 pm A 41-year-old Columbus man was pulled over on Hill Road near the Kemba Credit Union for an expired registration on his Chevrolet Silverado. He was also cited for driving without a license.

12:48 pm The manager of Aldi called the police to have a Columbus couple removed from the store. A week prior, the two had allegedly used the self-checkout lane but had only paid for a portion of the items.

When police arrived the two had allegedly neglected to pay for a couple of blankets.

10:12 pm Police were called to Longhorn Steakhouse on reports that seven women of various ages were threatening to fight another woman in the parking lot.

March 15

7:47 pm An 18-year-old Westerville man told police that he had arranged to sell his Play Station 5 to a man he met on Facebook named “Damarcus Baxman” for $400. Damarcus met the teen in front of Planet Fitness to make the exchange.

The teen said that Damarcus showed him a Cashapp transaction proving that the money had been paid. Afterwards, he realized that the receipt had been fake. The police confirmed that “Damarcus” was a fake name, and the man was actually a 17-year-old boy from Columbus. They contacted the boy’s mom, and she paid the Westerville boy for the Play Station.

8:58 pm A 19-year-old Pickerington woman reported that while she was waiting to turn left onto Diley Road from Hill, a black Jeep crossed the center line and side swiped her white Honda Civic.

They both pulled into the Giant Eagle parking lot to assess the damage. The Jeep driver allegedly told her, “I will let you go” then drove off.

9:44 pm An officer pulled over a Nissan Pathfinder for allegedly turning left without signaling and having an expired plate. Dispatch advised that the plate was registered as a Ford Focus. The driver, a 32-year-old Reynoldsburg man, told the officer that his mom had given him the car and he was having trouble transferring the tags.

March 16

2:03 pm A 36-year-old Pickerington man reported that laptops were stolen from his unit at Public Storage.

4:12 pm A baggie with 2.65 grams of marijuana was found at Circle K.

5:58 pm Police pulled over a Honda Accord for driving with a severely damaged windshield. The driver, a 41-year-old Columbus man, allegedly told an officer that he did not have a license because he was being sued.

7:20 pm An officer pulled over a Hyundai Tucson in front of the Sherman Center for allegedly having an expired license. Dispatch informed the officer that the plate belonged to a Mazda 626. The driver, a 22-year-old Canal Winchester woman, told the officer that the vehicle belonged to her friend.

The Tuscon was impounded, and the officer drove the woman home. She asked him to swing by her mailbox on the way, but he refused.
