Within the castle that is Wagnalls Memorial Library, a murder has taken place. Attend The Mousetrap, presented by Wagnalls Community Theatre, to uncover clues and determine who’s guilty.

The Mousetrap is a classic mystery by the “Queen of Crime,” Agatha Christie. The story, which takes place in post–World War II England, follows a group of strangers stranded together at a country inn.

“These people have been thrown together in the middle of this snowstorm, where a murder has taken place in London, and a detective comes to figure out who did it,” explained David Hohl, who portrays Sergeant Trotter.

The play strikes a compelling balance between suspense and humor, keeping audiences engaged throughout. While the mystery of a murderer looms large, moments of levity emerge through the characters’ suspicions of one another.

“This is one of the longest-running murder mysteries of all time,” said director Drew Moore. “It’s just really a wild ride. You really have no clue who is going to end up being the murderer until the very last second, and when that person is revealed, it is quite a shock.”

The production is brought to life by a dedicated and talented cast and crew.

Mrs. Boyle (Carol Hayward) finds fault with Monkswell Manor, fellow guest Christopher Wren (Dylan Sedam) adores the new inn and defends both it and their host Mollie Ralston (Devon Mushalko).

“The cast is incredible—we had them locked down probably the second day of auditions,” Moore said. “Normally, you would need callbacks for different roles, but with this group there were no disagreements. I’m very much a ‘when you know, you know’ person, and with them, I knew right away.”

Performances will be held April 17, 18, 24, and 25 at 7:30 p.m., and April 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17 each ($15 for students and seniors) and are available online. The show is recommended for ages 14 and up.

“It’s a classic with a fun twist,” said Summer Hartman. “It’s been running on London’s West End for decades, with tens of thousands of performances.”

In short, Wagnalls Community Theatre’s production of The Mousetrap offers an intriguing story, a strong cast, and a unique atmosphere. Come see if you can solve the mystery.

P.S. It’s in a castle—so you know it’s cool.
