The Comprehensive Plan, which will serve as a guide for Fairfield County to manage growth in a strategic and thoughtful way, will be considered by the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) at a public meeting on March 5, 2024, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Fairfield County Workforce Center located at 4465 Coonpath Road NW, Carroll.
At that meeting, the RPC will vote on recommending the Comprehensive Plan to the Fairfield County Commissioners for their consideration. If approved, it will then be sent to the Fairfield County Commissioners to consider in a public meeting on March 19, 2024, at 9 a.m. at the Fairfield County Courthouse, 3rd Floor, Commissioners’ Hearing Room.
The plan development process started in October of 2022, engaging a steering committee of 36 community leaders. Planning NEXT, a professional community planning company, was hired by the committee to oversee the planning process. The company conducted a series of more than 30 stakeholder interviews that included township trustees of every township in the county, leaders of villages and cities and other community leaders and hosted a public meeting at the beginning of the process, followed by multiple opportunities for in-person and online feedback.
After a public meeting in September, Fairfield County Commissioners determined additional opportunities for public input were necessary, and subsequently conducted meetings with local township and municipal leaders and citizens to obtain additional input. Accordingly, several changes have been made to the plan to address concerns and ideas raised in these meetings.
