On January 7, people from all over central Ohio descended upon the event space at Combustion Brewery and Taproom for the first-ever Pickerington Environmental Education and Art Fair, organized by Greener Violet.

It was standing-room only for the panel on pollinator gardens led by Extension Educator Carrie Brown from the Ohio State University. Brown told the audience that animals and plants evolve together. When invasive plants overtake natives, local food chains are damaged starting with insects including moths, butterflies and lightning bugs.

We hope that those who participated left feeling empowered to make efforts to: remove invasives, plant natives, take steps to protect our waterways, be mindful of their waste production and disposal, and to strive to be a more proactive member of a community whose collective actions will more robustly support pollinators in 2024! – Greener Violet President Michelle Hill

Members of the Pickerington High School North Eco Summit Team spoke to visitors regarding the pollinator garden they created in their school’s courtyard. From left to right, seniors Kyleigh Crampton, Audrey Chestnut, Gabby Dobberstein and junior Aubrey Jones.
