Pickerington Schools Hires New Treasurer

At their October 10, 2022, regular meeting, the Pickerington Local School District Board of Education approved a contract with John Walsh to serve as the district’s new Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer effective November 14, 2022. In this role, Mr. Walsh will oversee the financial operations of the district which encompasses a myriad of responsibilities including the accuracy and timeliness of all state and federal reporting, the development of the annual district budget and the district’s Five-Year Forecast.

Mr. Walsh has 23 years of experience in Ohio public school district finances. He is currently the Treasurer for the Whitehall City School District, a position he has held for over 3 years. He began his career in school districts at Green Local Schools where he was Treasurer for 11 years before being recruited to Northwest Local Schools and then Groveport Madison Schools. Before beginning his career in public school district finance, he spent 3 years as a financial analyst at BF Goodrich Aerospace. Mr. Walsh received a bachelor’s degree in finance, Magna Cum Laude, from Morehead University.

The Pickerington Local School District Board of Education received assistance in the hiring process from K-12 Business Consulting. The board screened and vetted the credentials of several potential candidates. Following a detailed and thorough interview, Mr. Walsh was offered a contract to be the Treasurer/CFO of the district.

Pickerington Local School District Board of Education President Vanessa Niekamp said, “We are impressed with John’s background and knowledge of school finances. His experience and ability to communicate school funding information clearly is very evident to us. In his past and current positions, he has provided financial leadership to the school districts he served. We are confident he has the skills to help lead our district forward in a variety of ways. We are excited to have John join our administrative team.”

Superintendent Dr. Chris Briggs also noted, “We know our district needs an individual with successful school treasurer experience and who is a skilled leader and communicator. I feel confident that John will be a great fit here and look forward to working with him to move the district forward.”

Mr. Walsh said, “I am incredibly pleased and honored to have been chosen as the districts’ next Treasurer/CFO. I want to thank the Board of Education and Superintendent Briggs for the trust they have placed in me. I have become familiar with the district and community as I have worked nearby and can see the exciting things happening in the district. I am excited to work in the district. Pickerington has always appealed to me and been a leader in education. I love public education and it is a chance for me to help kids succeed and improve our overall community. I look forward to being on the Pickerington administrative team for many years, and to serving the board of education, students, and parents of the school district.”
