The students of the Pickerington Local School District (PLSD) come from 73 countries and speak over 58 different languages. This Saturday, April 30 from 10 am to 2 pm, the schools invite the community to join them to celebrate the various cultures, ethnicities and religions of their students at the fifth annual CommUNITY Fair.

This year’s theme is “Expanding our global reach.”

“It is an opportunity for the Pickerington community to network and get to know the diversity that exists in our district,” said Elizabeth Curtis, English Learning Coordinator for the PLSD.

The event, to be held at Violet Baptist Church (8345 Blacklick-Eastern Road NW), will feature student projects, presentations, performances, a live band, a henna artist, balloon artist, salsa classes and games. You can make crafts, sample international cuisine, shop local vendors and learn about local resources.

CommUNITY is a free event.

In the past three years, the number of English Learning students in the district has more than doubled.

“Our number one language is Nepali,” Curtis said. “The second is Spanish.”
