Christian Strong, a senior at Pickerington High School North, has made his mark on the national musical theatre scene by becoming a finalist at the 2023 Jimmy Awards in New York City.

The Jimmy Awards, also known as The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, are a prestigious recognition for the best high school performers in the country.

Strong was one of six finalists for “Best Performance by an Actor” and received a $3,000 scholarship for his future education.  He earned his spot at the Jimmy Awards by winning the CAPA Marquee Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his portrayal of Lola in North’s production of Kinky Boots last fall.

Strong spent a week in New York City with nearly 100 other talented students from across the nation, participating in intensive training and workshops with Broadway professionals and industry experts. He also got to perform his role of Lola on the Minskoff Theatre stage, where The Lion King is presented.  Strong is the first CAPA Marquee Award winner to be named a finalist at the Jimmy Awards.

North theatre director Allen Decarlo described Strong as “one of the most extraordinary students I have had the pleasure of knowing.”

“Christian’s abilities are truly awe-inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on all who witness his remarkable performances,” Decarlo said. “Whether it’s his incredible musical prowess, his commanding presence on stage, or his impeccable academic achievements, Christian’s talents know no bounds. His musical skills are nothing short of exceptional, with a voice that effortlessly captivates audiences, evoking powerful emotions and creating a deep connection with every listener.

Beyond his artistic talents, Christian’s genuine and down-to-earth personality shine through in every interaction. He is a true embodiment of kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement to his peers. Christian’s humility and unwavering support for others make him not only an exceptional talent but also an equally amazing human being.

The world is fortunate to have such a gifted individual who uses his talents to inspire and uplift those around him. Christian Strong, you are a true shining star, and your bright future is filled with endless possibilities. Keep shining and touching lives with your exceptional talents and extraordinary spirit.”

Audiences can next catch Strong in North’s production of Shrek, the Musical, November 16-19.
