Pickerington Police Reports May 25 – 31

May 25

10:10 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a man masturbating in Victory Park. Surveillance footage reportedly showed movements consistent with the allegation. The 74-year-old man, a retired City of Pickerington employee, denied wrongdoing and said he was either brushing off cat hair or picking at a loose thread. Charges were forwarded to the prosecutor, who declined to pursue the case.

10:59 p.m. A 37-year-old Pickerington man sent private photographs to a woman he met online before learning the profile was fraudulent. The person who received the images allegedly demanded money and threatened to share the photos with the victim’s contacts.

12:09 a.m. An officer stopped a Toyota Sienna after seeing it make a U-turn on Fuller’s Way to re-enter the traffic circle on Refugee Road. When the officer asked the driver, a 66-year-old Columbus man, to exit the vehicle, he noticed a handgun in the man’s pocket.

Police learned the driver had multiple violent felony convictions that prohibited him from possessing a firearm. The man reportedly told officers, “Kids these days don’t know how to act. I will carry a gun until the day I die to protect myself.”
At the police station, he registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.154, nearly twice Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08.

May 27

6:46 a.m. A 46-year-old Reynoldsburg woman was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and failing to maintain reasonable control after a crash at GetGo. Police said she pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, striking a gas pump and a pole.

5:51 p.m. A Colony Park resident reported loud music coming from a neighboring property. Police reportedly could hear the music through the phone call.

A responding officer informed the 28-year-old resident that Pickerington’s noise ordinance prohibits sounds audible more than 50 feet beyond a property line. Less than 30 minutes later, the officer returned and again heard the music before reaching the property.

After the resident answered the door, the officer advised him that because he had already received a warning and failed to comply, he would be cited for disturbing the peace. The man allegedly became upset, called the officer a “dumb ass” and complained that police never respond when he reports issues.

4:02 p.m. A Melrose neighborhood resident asked police to issue a no-trespass order to a 23-year-old door-to-door salesman from Palm Bay, Florida. The man said he had not seen the home’s “No Soliciting” sign.

5:53 p.m. A 40-year-old Columbus woman paid admission to the Pickerington Community Pool and was later joined by her daughter, niece and a teenage boy. She paid admission for the girls but not the boy.

The pool manager insisted that the teen would need a day pass if he intended to enter the facility. The woman and her friend, a 44-year-old Reynoldsburg woman, argued that they did not know the boy and had been told he was only waiting for a ride rather than swimming.

Both women were issued no-trespass orders.
