Pickerington Police

May 14

2:08 a.m. After being told that he could not buy beer after 1 a.m., a man allegedly stole a 12-pack of Modelo from Speedway.

6:15 p.m. A Pickerington woman reported that her bank card had been used at Taco Bell on Diley Road for $68.16 and at Pizza Hut for $100.16. Pizza Hut provided the name on the order.

May 15

1:00 p.m. Someone allegedly broke into a vehicle parked behind Al’s Delicious Popcorn and stole a wallet and a Pandora bead.

May 16

2:47 p.m. A 64-year-old man reported that his neighbors in Preston Trails were stalking him online and that he believed that the Pickerington Police were conspiring with the neighbors to harm him. He accused the department of hacking into his phone and computer. The Pickerington Police have no such technology.

He submitted photos of his car stereo, a computer screen and a person walking. The man has reported incidents of alleged harassment to the Pickerington Police for more than 10 years. His claims have included being the victim of chemical bombs and that strangers have been following him. Officers have been unable to find evidence to substantiate his reports.

3:46 p.m. A 56-year-old Pickerington woman reported that someone had created a cash app in her name and had spent $100 at a company called “Skee Dolla”.

May 17

  

 

1:19 a.m. The security alarm tripped at Longhorn Steakhouse. When officers arrived, they met two men that the restaurant had hired to clean the building. However, one of the workers, a 32-year-old man from Mason, was wanted on a warrant out of Kentucky.

Upon arriving at the Fairfield County Jail, the man asked the officer to throw away his pack of cigarettes because he had a marijuana joint inside.

2:17 p.m. At dismissal, a 14-year-old girl at Ridgeview STEM Junior High allegedly charged past the school resource officer (SRO) and the dean of students to threaten other students. The SRO grabbed the girl in a “bear hug” but the teen spun around and punched the officer in the head. The girl continued throwing punches at the SRO’s face as the officer attempted to restrain her.

An assistant principal and the principal were able to restrain the girl and bring her back into the building. The girl continued to punch and kick at the officer and administrators until they were able to pin her on the floor with her hands cuffed behind her back.

The SRO received scratches and a cut to the face. Her body camera was damaged and the assistant principal’s shirt was ripped. The charges forwarded to the juvenile court system were resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and three counts of felonious assault.The juvenile court reported that the girl’s mother was “highly upset” and insisted on seeing the school’s surveillance video.  The SRO and administrators waited for her parent, but she did not arrive.

6:57 p.m. Officers were called to Lake’s Edge Apartment where a 22-year-old man was allegedly smoking marijuana in his car because he did not want the smoke to bother his grandmother with whom he lived.

May 18

12:13 p.m. A 50-year-old Pickerington man told police that someone had stolen his credit card and had charged items totaling $320.43.

3:21 p.m.  A 21-year-old Groveport man reported that someone stole $100.00 in cash, a credit card and a debit card from his wallet that he had stashed in an unsecured locker at Next Level Fitness. That same day, the credit card was used at the Kroger gas station on Brice Road for $44. The Groveport man placed a freeze on his account, so that when the thief attempted to use the card at the same Kroger to charge $505.00 in gift cards, the transaction failed.

When accessing the cameras from the service station and the register to give to the police, Kroger staff allegedly recognized the perpetrator as one of their own employees, a 20-year-old Pickerington man. Video at Next Level Fitness showed the same man wearing the same clothes as from the Kroger videos.

10:25 p.m. Two Pickerington boys, ages 15 and 14, allegedly were throwing rocks at buildings along Columbus Street in Olde Pickerington Village.

May 19

8:34 a.m. The cash drawer with more than $500.00 in it was allegedly stolen from Serrano Family Practice.

12:55 p.m. A Chevrolet Camaro was allegedly stolen from the parking lot of Lake’s Edge Apartments.

6:03 p.m. A 17-year-old Pickerington boy allegedly told police that he stole a sandwich from Giant Eagle because he did not like the food his mother had made.

9:02 p.m. Someone broke the sink off the wall in the men’s bathroom at Victory Park.

10:23 p.m. A catalytic converter was allegedly stolen from a truck parked in Willow Pond.

May 20

12:27 a.m. Three masked men attempted to break into PNC Bank but rode away on motorcycles before the police arrived. One suspect had climbed a ladder onto the roof while the other two tried to kick down the back door. Surveillance footage of the suspects matched the description of assailants who had robbed the Burger King in Canal Winchester at gunpoint an hour earlier.

8:01 p.m. A 30-year-old Reynoldsburg man called police after he locked his keys inside his wife’s car. He was arrested on a warrant out of Lancaster.

8:39 p.m. A 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Columbus, allegedly attacked a 31-year-old man who was playing with his 5-year-old son and some other children in the pool at Best Western Executive Suites. The Columbus man was wanted on a felony warrant out of Hamilton County.

May 22

6:48 p.m. Circle K reported that two Pickerington boys stole Little Debbie Honey Buns.

7:32 p.m. The bartender at Rule 3 told police that a woman ran behind the bar claiming that a man was following her with a gun.  Video surveillance showed the two arguing in the parking lot beforehand. The man entered the building, looked around then left.

May 23

12:50 a.m. An 18-year-old Columbus man allegedly stopped at the red light on Diley at Hill Road then continued through the intersection before the light turned green. He told the officer that he was distracted by a death in his family, then handed over two small bags of marijuana.

9:20 a.m. An officer pulled over a vehicle after the driver, a 25-year-old Columbus man, allegedly turned left onto Hill Road from Blacklick-Eastern Road without signaling. The man was driving with a suspended license.

3:24 p.m. Two teenage Pickerington girls got into a fight at the Main Branch of the Pickerington Public Library.

May 24

2:55 a.m. The bartender at Finnegan’s Wake called the police to report that he had taken the keys from an intoxicated 30-year-old man who was sitting in the parking lot. When the man’s wife and sister-in-law arrived to take him home, the police took the sister-in-law to the police station to pay the bond on her outstanding warrant.

4:40 p.m. An 11-year-old boy and his friend were allegedly jumped by a group of kids at the bus stop after they came home from Diley Middle School.

9:19 p.m. A person allegedly took the keys of a 39-year-old Columbus man from Planet Fitness then stole the man’s wallet from his vehicle.

May 25

4:56 a.m. Speedway contacted the police about a suspicious teenager. When officers arrived, the 15-year-old girl from Crafton, PA told them that she was taking an Uber to visit her sick grandmother. The police contacted the girl’s father who told them that she had no grandmother in Columbus but that she had met a boy online from Columbus. The Uber driver offered to give back the $300.00 that the girl had paid him.

5:04 p.m. A 16-year-old Reynoldsburg girl was allegedly attacked by a group of other teenaged girls outside Ridgeview STEM Junior High.

May 26

2:02 a.m. A 36-year-old Violet Township man, who was allegedly pulled over for a burnt-out taillight, was also charged with driving without a license.

3:33 a.m. A 37-year-old Columbus woman was allegedly passed out drunk in the parking lot of McDonalds on Hill Road.

2:48 p.m. A 76-year-old Canal Winchester man told police that pick pockets stole his wallet at Cracker Barrel.

8:13 p.m. A 31-year-old Columbus woman allegedly turned left onto Tussing Road from Hill Road despite not being in the turn lane. Additionally, the turn lane did not have a green light. Her SUV was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Hill Road. She told police that although she made an illegal turn, she believed that the 74-year-old Violet Township man hit her on purpose as road rage. Neither driver was reportedly injured nor were the woman’s children (ages 13, 10 and one).

10:52 p.m. An officer allegedly pulled over a 19-year-old Pickerington man for running the Milnor Road traffic light at Refugee Road and hitting another vehicle. The man told the officer that the did not have time to stop and was afraid he would run out of gas. The officer also confiscated marijuana.

May 27

1:22 a.m. Police allegedly confiscated marijuana from a 27-year-old Zanesville man after he was pulled over for having only one headlight.

11:01 p.m. A van and garage door were vandalized with spray paint in the Manchester neighborhood.

May 28

9:10 a.m. A 24-year-old Pickerington man called the police because he feared that he would harm himself. He had sent some nude photos to someone he met on social media, and they were threatening to share the images. The man paid $500.

6:43 p.m. A 30-year-old Columbus woman reported that someone stole her purse when she fell asleep watching The Little Mermaid at Marcus Cinema.

May 29

12:27 a.m. A 37-year-old Pickerington man was cited for driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop at Hill and Refugee Roads.

2:33 a.m. A 24-year-old Columbus man was pulled over near Hill Road and Stonecreek Drive for weaving between lanes. The officer noticed the smell of alcohol. The man said that he had been with his friends, but he could not recall which bar. His story kept changing. He then proceeded to fail each section of the field sobriety test.

The officer asked the man if he had suffered any recent head injuries, to which the man answered “no”. However, he did tell the officer that he was a diabetic and he believed his blood sugar was high. Violet Township paramedics were called.

The man’s blood sugar measured 400 therefore the medics immediately transported him to Ohio Health Pickerington. He was “not charged with anything after reviewing body cam and seeing that it was a diabetic episode causing the alcoholic-like symptoms.”

2:44 p.m. Employees at Papa Johns reported that their safe was burglarized the night before.

7:08 p.m. A 14-year-old girl was bitten by a pit bull in the front yard of her home in Willow Pond.

May 30

11:46 a.m. A man holding a bouquet of flowers allegedly spent 20 minutes at the ATM inside of Giant Eagle while two other men served as lookouts. The command log describes one suspect as wearing a fedora and the other a top hat. A device recovered from the ATM was given to the Secret Service

2:46 p.m. A nine-year-old boy was bitten by a small dog as he rode his bike in the Meadows.

8:07 p.m. Two carloads of people drove to a home in Preston Trails to fight with a 19-year-old woman who allegedly physically assaulted a teenage girl on the east side of Columbus. Police advised the people to return to their vehicles and resolve the matter with the Columbus Police.

May 31

10:37 a.m. Central Ohio Insurance employees reported that someone had burglarized their office over the weekend and taken a credit card and petty cash.

10:50 p.m. An officer allegedly found a 34-year-old woman in possession of marijuana during a traffic stop near the corner of Diley and Long Roads for driving with an expired license and registration.

3:46 p.m. Two teenagers from Pickerington and a 20-year-old man from Bucyrus were allegedly trespassing in Coyote Run. They told police that they thought the “No Trespassing” signs were only for the railroad tracks and they were just “walking up to a cool spot on the cliff side in the preserve”.  A bong was seized.

4:30 p.m. A 24-year-old Columbus woman with an expired driver’s license was arrested on a warrant out of Reynoldsburg during a traffic stop at Refugee Road and Windmiller Drive.

June 1

9:25 a.m. A forty-year-old Pickerington woman told police that she tried to sell a reptile tank to a woman calling herself “Sarah” for $100.00 on Facebook Marketplace. Sarah said that she had to pay using her business account which added $1,000 in processing fees. Sarah asked the Pickerington woman to pay her the $1,000 to cover the fees which the Pickerington woman did. Sarah never paid nor did she pick up the tank.

10:15 a.m. A Pickerington man and his mother reported that a 46-year-old Columbus man had stolen their credit card information.

9:27 p.m. A woman allegedly left Iron Chef without paying.

June 3

12:57 p.m. A Pickerington woman told police that a stranger met her in the Buff City parking lot and paid her $200 for her cellphone. Later, she realized the $200 was counterfeit.

June 4

2:34 p.m. A 21-year-old Canal Winchester man allegedly stole $244.98 worth of items from Kohls. He was in possession of drug paraphernalia and was wanted on a warrant.

4:40 p.m. A 65-year-old Gahanna man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after a traffic stop at Hill Road and Stonecreek Drive.

June 5

8:14 p.m. Emergency services were called regarding a large fire in the field behind Rule 3. Witnesses reported four juveniles setting the fire then entering the building.

2:40 p.m. Someone spraypainted four garages in the Lakes Edge apartment complex.

June 6

9:20 a.m. A 56-year-old Columbus woman told police that while at the Shoppes at Turnberry she was blocked by another vehicle that refused to move when she honked her horn.  When she tried to squeeze past, her SUV scraped the side of their SUV. The passenger from the other vehicle then exited and pushed her.

8:40 p.m. A woman, hiding in her closet, called police because a group of teenagers were trying to break through her door in the Meadows Apartments. Witnesses reported seeing the teens flee the scene.

June 7

10:57 p.m. A 26-year-old Reynoldsburg woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant after being pulled over for not having visible vehicle tags.

5:15 p.m. A woman found an unknown beanie hidden inside her garage off Drexel Place. Inside the hat was a pistol. She told police that the gun was probably connected to a burglary that happened in her neighborhood a year ago. At that time, a group of kids were found hiding in her garage. Police confiscated the pistol which seemed to be an actual weapon until the magazine revealed it held BBs.

8:08 p.m. An 18-year-old Pickerington woman ran a red light on Refugee Road at Stonecreek Drive. The officer in the vehicle behind her, pulled the woman over near Kroger. Both the license plate and her learners permit were expired. A second officer had just issued the woman a citation for nearly striking another vehicle head on. The woman’s car was towed, and she walked home. The police report stated that the driver “appeared to be confused with traffic laws.”

June 8

8:34 a.m. A semi-truck hauling an electrical transformer snagged a power line that hung low over Hill Road near the post office. The line severed and a large amount of mineral oil poured out of the transformer from where it too had been damaged. Traffic was rerouted onto Meadows Boulevard and Courtland Lane while the Violet Township Fire Department and the Ohio EPA cleared the spill.

10:20 p.m. A homeowner from the Reserve at Pickerington Ponds reported a strange woman was standing outside her door touching the house numbers. When the police arrived, they tried to question the woman, but she was allegedly too intoxicated to speak, so they handcuffed her and placed her in the back of a cruiser.    At this time, a woman drove up and asked the officers “what did my cousin do?”.  The two apparently lived two houses away. The officers released the suspect and had the cousin drive the suspect’s vehicle to their own driveway.

9:09 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing three teens light a dumpster on fire near Legacy Church on Windmiller Drive. Police believe this may be connected to the fire set behind Rule 3 on June 5.

June 9

6:11 a.m. Police received reports of a red Kia Soul driving recklessly through the neighborhood behind the police department. When the officer arrived, he saw the suspect vehicle parked along Ward Street, but it took off as he approached. It crashed almost immediately into a fire hydrant and tree on Fuller’s Circle. Witnesses reported seeing two young men run away from the crash scene.

The vehicle sustained “disabling front end damage from the crash. The center console had been ripped out and started with a screwdriver.” The owner of the vehicle told police he had left it at Firestone.

7:50 p.m. A 78-year-old man reported that someone took all the items from his shed in Manchester. The shed was on the edge of his property, and he suspected that the company hired to clean the rental house behind his home had mistakenly cleared the shed. Police contacted the owner of the rental home and all the items from the shed were returned.

2:54 p.m. Two thirteen-year-old boys, one from Columbus and the other from Pickerington, got into a fight at the Pickerington Pool and assaulted the manager as he tried to break them apart.

9:21 p.m. A man gained access to two vehicles at La Fogata Grill by breaking their windows. The only item reported stolen was an article of clothing.

June 10

7:33 a.m. A 33-year-old woman arrived home to find that the front door of her house in Sycamore Creek had been kicked open. Officers searched the house but found no intruders. Nothing was missing.

June 11

2:53 a.m. A man wearing a hoodie and a ski mask robbed Speedway at gunpoint then disappeared into the Turnberry apartment complex.

5:46 a.m. Unknown perpetrators broke the windows of three vehicles in the Turnberry Apartment complex. The steering column of at least one car had been tampered with as well. One vehicle was a Kia and the other two were Hyundais.

7:15 a.m. Two electrical contractors staying at the Comfort Inn reported that their trailer full of equipment was stolen.

1:19 p.m. A trailer was allegedly taken from the Retreat at Graystone.

5:44 p.m. Arby’s manager called the police to report an unknown man wearing a hood and a bandana covering his face had threatened two of his employees. After the man left, the restaurant received two phone calls (presumed to be from the same person) warning them to evacuate.

June 13

1:01 a.m. A 33-year-old Canal Winchester man was allegedly pulled over on Hill Road near Steak & Shake for marked lane violations. He told the officer that he had just gotten off work as a bartender and he may have drank a little during his shift.

3:40 p.m. A 51-year-old Columbus man tried to cash a fraudulent check at Park National Bank.

June 14

3:16 p.m. Two people allegedly entered the Kroger liquor store and hid several bottles in their clothing. They exited the store and climbed into a vehicle driven by a third person.

3:54 p.m. A 33-year-old Columbus man told police that a man pulled a gun on him during a road rage incident on Hill Road. The man pulled into the Kroger lot and parked, and the suspect followed him. So, the man drove to the police station.

June 15

10:06 a.m. A 55-year-old Pickerington man reported that an unknown person had opened three bank accounts in his name and had transferred a total of $450.28 to the new accounts from his existing home equity account.

June 16

10:40 p.m. An 18-year-old Pickerington man and a 17-year-old Pickerington girl were allegedly smoking marijuana outside Marcus Theatre.  Police confiscated more than 350 grams.

June 17

11:29 a.m. A 28-year-old Obetz woman allegedly left her five children (ages three to 11) locked in her vehicle with the engine off while she was inside Lifetime Fitness. She left the gym moments after the police arrived. She told the officers that she had activated the remote start, but it must have shut off while she was inside. She claimed that she had stopped by to use the restroom and was only gone for 10 minutes. Witnesses told the officers that the woman had been inside for an hour asking about becoming a member.
