A little after 7 am on September 30, the Pickerington Duck Donuts (10710 Blacklick-Eastern Rd) opened its doors to a line of customers which extended well beyond the building. The bakery/coffee shop promised that the first customer in line would win free donuts for a year and the next fifty customers would receive a “Sprinkle Happiness” giveaway.

Joseph Klemann, a sophomore at Pickerington High School North won the grand prize. He heard about the giveaway from his mom, who planned to arrive at the bakery around 4 am, but he told her he would win the prize for her.

Klemann arrived at 10 pm the night before along with his friends, Izabella Dotson (a sophomore from Canal Winchester High School) and Kyle Moore (a sophomore at Pickerington High School Central). They set up their lawn chairs and blankets and prepared for a long night.

“We were bored and saw they were giving away free donuts, so we came and gave it a shot,” Moore said.
