From Fairfield County Park District
During ‘Rock Mill Days” at Stebelton Park (1429 Rockmill Place NW), visitors may tour a restored 1824 gristmill and watch as grain is milled. Normally, the first opening is in May. However, for 2022, the mill remained closed due to unsafe conditions.
The Fairfield County Park District stated that “the top and third layers of rock on which the mill stands are stable; sandwiched between the two is a softer, unstable layer. Chunks of rock from that section have fallen and are falling at an increasing rate.”
Work will be done to stabilize the building, remove fractured stone, then fill the void. After a successful bidding process, the job has been awarded to a contractor who will begin repairs before the end of December. Work should be completed in a few short months.
