June 28, 2021 Provided Content

Local author, S.R.D. Harris, is on a mission to write and publish high-quality, uplifting and empowering children’s books with diverse characters! She hopes to spark a love of reading in all children!

Her latest book, Gracie’s Grace, is her “2021 Passion Project!” Proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the CHA (Citizens for Humane Action, Inc.) Animal Shelter. Harris and her family saw how incredible CHA Animal Shelter was when they adopted their own puppy named Gracie!

Each year, CHA rescues more than 1,400 homeless and abandoned dogs and cats in the Central Ohio area. CHA has been on their amazing mission since 1975 and S.R.D. Harris wants to give back, in a big way, to help them.

Gracie’s Grace is a touching story about a puppy named Gracie who finds herself in an animal shelter. Gracie sees other dogs getting adopted before her and wonders if she will ever fit in. Her physical differences and size make her feel a deep sense of insecurity. Lucky for Gracie, she meets Max, who is an older and much wiser dog.

Max teaches Gracie valuable lessons about self-love and having compassion and empathy towards herself and others. Max encourages Gracie to not change a single thing about herself. Gracie learns to love and accept herself, as she is, and to have faith that her perfect family would find her!

In order to spread this positive message with as many people as possible, and produce a high-quality, hardcover, limited edition for Gracie’s Grace, S.R.D. Harris is hosting a Kickstarter Campaign to pre-order the book.

S.R.D. Harris has seen, firsthand, the positive impact of books with empowering messages. She has adopted many Central Ohio classrooms, performed free Author Visits, and has donated hundreds of her books to students all over Ohio. She enthusiastically volunteers with the American Literacy Corporation/Read 365 and was named April’s “Literacy Champion” by Read for A Cause! S.R.D. Harris believes all children can love reading if they connect with books that inspire them!

This is the third project for which she has teamed up with her talented illustrator, Barry Davian. The Kickstarter pre-sales begin Tuesday, June 29th. The first two days of the campaign will feature Early Bird Specials (including Free Shipping)!

The positive messages that Gracie’s Grace expresses are critical for teaching children self-love and how to empathize towards others who may be different. Gracie wants us all to embrace, and even, celebrate our differences!!
