The boy and two 15-year-old girls with him reportedly became belligerent and began yelling derogatory slurs at the staff.

When police arrived, the teens refused to identify themselves. A short time later, a woman claiming to be a family member arrived and began cussing at the officers and staff.

“Were you just going to send these kids out into the rain?” she yelled.

12:58 am Officers stopped near the Long Road/Columbus Street split to help a disabled Chevrolet. The driver, a 35-year-old Pickerington man was just returning to the vehicle with a can full of gas that he had borrowed from a resident of one of the nearby homes.

The Chevrolet’s registration sticker belonged to a different vehicle, the man had a suspended license and was wanted on a warrant.

As he was arrested, he asked that his property be handed over to his female companion. However, because his possessions included sensitive items including a cell phone and bank cards, the officers needed the woman’s identification.

About this time, the driver’s mother arrived on the scene and told the officers that the woman’s name was “Tammy”. To which the woman responded, “That’s a nickname – that’s not my real name.”

Eventually, the woman owned up to being “Tammy”. She said that a person she met in jail told her that passengers do not have to identify themselves to law enforcement during traffic stops.
