April 2

3:00 p.m. A man and a woman allegedly stole tools from Tractor Supply.

April 3

12:10 a.m. An employee of Speedway reported that a 45-year-old Reynoldsburg man had just stolen 4 cans of alcohol, valued at $7.51, then driven off. The employee recognized his passenger, as a 73-year-old Reynoldsburg woman who shops at Speedway regularly.

The police tracked the vehicle to the woman’s home. When she answered the door, the officers allegedly asked her if she knew why they were there. To which she answered, “because he stole beer”.

When they asked to whom she was referring, the woman looked back into her home then said that her friend was hiding. The officers asked the man to come out of the house where he was identified as having an outstanding warrant out of Licking County.

The man told police that he had gone to Speedway to “grab s__t” but it was not a big deal because he knew it only cost around $8.00. The stolen items had been consumed.

3:57 p.m. A 73-year-old Pickerington woman told police that an unknown person had opened a bank account in her name.

7:43 p.m. A man, allegedly without a valid driver’s license, was pulled over on Long Road near George’s Creek neighborhood for driving 45 mph in a 25-mph zone and for having a fictitious license plate.

April 4

  

 

1:14 a.m. An officer allegedly pulled over a 20-year-old Pickerington man on northbound Diley Road near Windmiller Road for driving 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. The man was wanted on a warrant out of Belmont County.

1:43 a.m. Police were called to a home in Preston Trails on reports of an overdose.  They allegedly found a 31-year-old Columbus man falling in and out of consciousness. After Violet Township medics cleared him, the man was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Grandview Heights.

9:47 a.m. A Kohl’s loss-prevention officer, allegedly witnessed a 59-year-old Columbus, known to be a shoplifter, conceal shoes in his clothing. When the man saw Pickerington police officers approaching, he headed back to the shoe department and dumped what he had hidden.

10:52 a.m. Pickerington High School Central called the police to report that a 15-year-old boy who attended the school last year had been accompanying a current student to his morning classes. The former student said that since his current school in Hilliard was on Spring Break, he thought he would spend the day at Central.  He was charged with trespassing.

1:14 p.m. Alterra Real Estate Advisors reported that two checks that they had mailed from the Pickerington Post Office were stolen, wiped and rewritten. The first check was cashed for $8,900 and the second was cashed for $14,000.

2:25 p.m. A 60-year-old woman reported that checks mailed from her mailbox in Inverness Glen were stolen and rewritten. The first check was changed from $49.48 to $490.48, and the second check was changed from $127.21 to $427.21.

April 5

12:18 a.m. A 41-year-old Columbus woman allegedly stole $519.94 worth of alcohol from Giant Eagle.

1:06 p.m. Police were called to Ridgeview STEM Junior High on a report that a 12-year-old boy had threatened another 12-year-old boy with a knife in the cafeteria.

5:14 p.m. A 61-year-old woman reported that her Nintendo Switch was stolen from Twins Tavern.

9:32 p.m. A 33-year-old Columbus woman allegedly threatened a family in the Graystone neighborhood that she was going to break into their home because she was told they had her stolen car. The police arrested her on an outstanding warrant from Franklin County.

April 6

8:26 p.m. A 45-year-old woman reported that someone had stolen her purse from her car parked at Pickerington High School Central.

8:39 p.m. A 41-year-old woman reported that someone had smashed the window of her vehicle that was parked outside Violet Community Fitness. From inside they stole $800 in cash amongst other items. A pair of iPods were tracked to Park Alley but not recovered.

April 7

1:01 a.m. An officer pulled over a vehicle on Hill Road near Stonecreek Drive for allegedly driving without lights and not remaining in the marked lanes. The driver, a 28-year-old Pickerington man told the officer that he had not been drinking, then “ah maybe? I, uh… No, I have not.”

As the officer returned from his cruiser to run the driver’s identification, he overheard the man speaking on the phone to his father.  The father allegedly advised his son, “two drinks? Do it.  Take the test.” Following his father’s advice, he unsuccessfully attempted the field sobriety tests, then blew a .167 blood/alcohol level at the police station. The legal limit is 0.8 blood-alcohol concentration.

4:49 p.m. A 28-year-old Pickerington man reported that a check he had mailed from the Pickerington Post Office had been stolen, washed then cashed for $8.500.90.

April 8

3:26 a.m. An officer allegedly witnessed two minors driving southbound on Hill Road toward Pickerington Village traveling 70 mph in a 35-mph zone. The officer activated his cruiser’s lights and siren, but the suspects ducked into the Willow Ponds neighborhood.

A second officer discovered the car in a cul-de-sac. He attempted to ask the boys for their identification and home address, but both refused to answer then took off on foot. The officer chased after them while attempting to radio their coordinates, but the radio failed to connect.

The suspects outran the officer, circled back to the car then drove away.

1:35 p.m. A 34-year-old man allegedly punched a teen employee of Get Air in the mouth after the employee confronted the man about not wearing a wristband. The suspect ran but the police were able to identify him via the registration form he had completed for his son.

2:00 p.m. A 32-year-old woman from Williamstown, WV reported that someone stole her purse from her vehicle parked at the softball fields off Diley Road.  She told police that she believed that someone had tampered with a door lock.

April 9

2:51 a.m. A 21-year-old Pickerington man allegedly was charged with marijuana possession after an officer pulled him over for driving with only one headlight.

10:02 a.m. Speedway asked the police to remove a 31-year-old Columbus man who was allegedly panhandling on their property.

11:01 a.m. Comfort Inn gave police a .38 Special revolver that was left in a drawer of one of their rooms. The gun had no registered owner and it had not been reported stolen. The person who had checked-out of the room in which the gun was found was a 23-year-old Columbus man wanted in Franklin County on domestic violence charges, therefore he cannot legally have access to a gun.

A woman called the station claiming to be the owner of the gun. The police told her that they would return the weapon to her if she provided proof of ownership.

April 10

1:18 a.m. Police pulled over a 34-year-old Columbus woman for allegedly weaving between lanes. She refused to take both the field sobriety test and the breathalyzer. Her license had been suspended for a previous offense of driving while intoxicated.

10:53 a.m. An 84-year-old Pickerington woman told police that when she tried to check her credit report online, her computer screen started flashing. She then received a call from a man claiming to be “Officer Adam Parker” from the Franklin County Fraud Department. The man told her that someone had purchased land in her name in both Alabama and Texas, however he could fix the. She sent him two transactions of $25,000 each from a Bitcoin kiosk.

4:29 p.m. Two boys from Pickerington (ages 16 and 17) allegedly pried open the siding on the barn at Sycamore Creek Park so they could squeeze inside.  They told police they were “only looking around”. The older boy had taken a saw chain to “make a handheld saw”.

April 11

12:18 p.m. Pickerington Police joined Fairfield County Sheriff deputies and SWAT officers at a home off Basil Western Road west of Allen Road to arrest a 30-year-old Violet Township man wanted on child pornography charges. Officers called to the man asking him to leave the house, but he did not comply.

A few seconds later, two shots were heard. Responders breached the front door with a ram then began searching the home with the assistance of drones. The man had barricaded himself in a bedroom by placing a dresser against the locked door.

The man fired two shots from a 9 mm pistol.  The first went through the outside wall. The second went into his head.  By the time officers broke through the barricade, he was already dead.

The sheriff’s office reported that at “large marijuana grow” was also found on the property.

4:30 p.m. Police pulled over a vehicle at the corner of Diley Road and Columbus Street for allegedly not having a working right turn signal. The driver of the car had a suspended license. The passenger was a paroled drug dealer who was known to the police for a recent incident in which two of his alleged cocaine customers overdosed. Small bags of white powder were confiscated from the vehicle.

April 12

1:37 a.m. A 19-year-old Pickerington man reported that his wallet was stolen from inside Planet Fitness.

April 14

8:37 a.m. A representative from Ryan Homes reported that someone had illegally placed trash in dumpsters at Greystone Drive.  They also had allegedly stolen building materials and sump pumps worth a total of $3,195.78 from construction sites.

9:21 a.m. An 81-year-old Pickerington woman reported that she had received a pop-up message on her computer from someone claiming to be a “Jonathan from Microsoft”.  The person told her that she had been hacked and to resolve the hack she needed to send money. She was told to “encrypt” the money by purchasing gift cards. She purchased a Home Depot card worth $2,000 and two $500 Target cards then messaged the numbers to “Jonathan”.

9:11 p.m. A 44-year-old Columbus woman was arrested on a felony warrant after a traffic stop. She also allegedly had a gun.

April 15

2:38 a.m. A man was arrested on a warrant out of Grove City after he was allegedly caught driving 52 mph in the 35-mph zone of Hill Road North.

5:17 p.m. Police pulled over a 30-year-old Columbus man for a traffic violation at the corner of Long and Diley Roads. Drugs were allegedly found in the car along with a gun under the passenger’s seat. The occupants were wanted on multiple warrants.

5:35 p.m. Giant Eagle reported that on February 10, a person stole a cart full of merchandise totaling $708.19.
