The Pickerington North Lady Panthers defeated the visiting Pickerington Central Tigers by a score of 2-0 the evening of Aug. 14, completing Pickerington North’s sweep of the first annual Pickerington Futbol Friday.
The Panther Boys had started the evening’s activities with a 2-0 victory lead by Carson Ramsdale.
The second of the day’s games started a little more balanced, with both teams exchanging opportunities through the first half, but neither landing on the board. Pickerington North made six shots in the first half – double that of Central, however the Tigers had the best look.
A shot from the edge of the box in the 14th minute evaded the outstretched arms of Panther keeper Reagan Green but struck the right goalpost. After bouncing free, Pickerington North’s defenders cleared the ball
Sixty-four minutes in, a quick passing play enabled North senior Nevaeh Champion to fire the ball past Tiger goalkeeper Ahlyssa Carroll. The Panthers doubled their lead nine minutes later after sophomore Emily Morris went bar-down.
Morris’ tally would be the final goal of the evening, with Green posting a clean sheet and Carroll making a couple more saves to prevent the Panthers from adding to their score.
The Panthers (1-0) next match is 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug.18, as they host the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats; The Tigers (0-1) take the field again at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 20th, when they host the (0-1) Fairfield Union Falcons at Tiger Stadium.
