Pickerington, OH – Pickerington High School Central senior Kiran Ofei-Amoh is headed to Michigan State University (MSU) this fall as a recipient of the highly competitive Joseph R. and Sarah L. Williams Scholarship, one of the university’s most distinguished full-ride awards.

Selected from approximately 1,000 candidates, Ofei-Amoh is among just 30 students chosen to receive the scholarship—an honor that recognizes exceptional academic achievement and future potential.

As a Williams Scholar, her award includes:

  • Full tuition (up to 18 credits per semester)
  • Required university fees
  • On-campus housing
  • A silver meal dining plan
  • A one-time $7,500 award to support a summer experiential learning opportunity

The scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters, representing a significant investment in her education and future.

“I was quite surprised when I got the call,” Ofei-Amoh shared. “Since there were 1,000 potential candidates for 30 Williams scholarships. However, once the surprise wore off, I was absolutely elated since earning a full ride scholarship is so rare—and the additional benefits of being a Williams Scholar will greatly help with reaching my career goals.”

She added that the news was just as meaningful for her family. “My parents were definitely very excited for me as well, as this is a huge relief with the increasing costs of college.”

Ofei-Amoh chose Michigan State not only for the scholarship, but for the balance of opportunity and community it offers.

“I chose MSU because of the opportunities a large research university provides, that I get to access immediately through receiving a Professorial Assistantship through the MSU Honors College,” she said. “At the same time, I’ll have a smaller, close-knit experience through joining Lyman Briggs College.”

At Michigan State, Ofei-Amoh plans to major in biochemistry and molecular biology/biotechnology through the university’s Lyman Briggs College, with plans to pursue graduate school and a career in biotechnology research.

“I’ve always been amazed by how scientific discoveries help to advance humanity,” she said. “I hope my time in college will provide a launching pad for an exciting career in this field.”

Reflecting on her time at Pickerington Central, Ofei-Amoh expressed gratitude for the people who helped shape her journey.

“My time in high school has truly been the best time to learn about myself and grow as a person,” she said. “I’d like to thank all my teachers for helping me grow into myself, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

Kiran Ofei-Amoh will begin her journey at Michigan State University this fall as part of a community of high-achieving Williams Scholars.
