The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) announced earlier today the nominees for the 2024 Marquee Awards.

Per CAPA’s website, “the CAPA Marquee Awards, presented by the AEP Foundation, is designed to celebrate, support and advocate for high school musical theatre education throughout central Ohio.”

This year, both Pickerington High School North’s Shrek the Musical and Pickerington High School Central’s The SpongeBob Musical were nominated in multiple categories.

In the category of “Best Actress in a Supporting Role”, junior Kamryn Dansby was nominated for her portrayal of Dragon in North’s Shrek.

In the category of “Best Direction”, Andrew Martin was nominated for Central’s SpongeBob. This is Martin’s first year as director at Pickerington Central.

In the category of “Best Actress in a Leading Role”, sophomore Allyson Carroll was nominated for her performance as Princess Fiona in North’s Shrek.

For the category of “Best Actor in a Leading Role”, four of the 15 semifinalists are students from Pickerington.

In the category of “Best Actor in a Leading Role”, senior Jackson Dilts was nominated for his performance as Squidward J. Q. Tentacles in Central’s SpongeBob.

The winners of the “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” Marquee Awards go on to compete on Broadway at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, known as the Jimmy Awards. Last year, Strong was a Jimmy Awards finalist, becoming the first CAPA Marquee Award winner to place at the national level.

Christian Strong performs “When Words Fail” from Shrek the Musical as a finalist in the 2023 Jimmy Awards (National High School Musical Theatre Awards).

The CAPA Marquee Award winners will be announced at a student showcase on June 6 at the Ohio Theatre. Tickets can be purchased online at www.capamarqueeawards.com.
