Pickerington Leaf Collection Schedule

October 1, 2021

The city of Pickerington will begin its leaf pickup service on October 18, below is the pick up schedule organized alphabetically by neighborhood or street.  Chronological lists can be found on the city’s website.

The city asks that leaves be raked to the front of each property and left on the lawn or curb.

“It is important not push the leaves into the streets as it will result in clogging of storm sewers during rain events,” said Pickerington Service Director Donald Rector.  “Storm sewer backups can cause property damage and localized flooding.  Clogged storm sewers also require significant resources to clean.”

Sometimes the collection trucks may arrive in a neighborhood prior to the listed dates, but the city will return to that neighborhood as scheduled also.

The city typically makes two service runs through each neighborhood to ensure all residents have an opportunity to collect leaves.   Leaves also fall at different times based on the type of tree and weather conditions.

“If the schedule needs to change due to weather, we will typically post on social media to let residents know,” Rector said. “We do get many calls and emails throughout the schedule, and we do our best to accommodate as we proceed. At the end of the schedule, we are moving all our equipment into snow removal mode and hope we don’t have to do that any sooner!”

The city composts the leaves and then works with local farmers to distribute onto fields for soil enhancement.
