Students and staff from Eastland Career Center banded together to make a sizable donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. Through a campus-wide competition students in the BPA career-tech student organization collected more than 60 pounds of pop can tabs, which were donated to the Pull Tab Initiative.

Over a two-week span, students across all program labs at Eastland Career Center (Groveport) pulled together for a friendly competition that would simultaneously support the local charity. Students from the Business Professionals of America (BPA) student organization rounded up and weighed each lab’s collection of pop tabs to determine a winning program.

Students from the Aviation lab made the largest donation of tabs, weighing in at 20.76 pounds. This accounted for more than 30 percent of the total tabs collected. For their efforts, BPA celebrated with the Aviation students by treating them to a round of cupcakes.

The biggest winner was the Ronald McDonald House and the families that they serve. The Eastland Career Center chapter of BPA donated 68 pounds of pop tabs, which equates to roughly 68,000 tabs. Those tabs will be recycled in order to generate revenue used to help families with children receiving serious medical treatment.
