In order to celebrate the coming holiday safely, Jerry’s Fireworks Factory has compiled key tips for at-home firework displays to ensure that you can celebrate with a BANG!

Safety tips:

  • Stay a safe distance away from spectators when shooting off fireworks, as they can backfire or shoot off in the wrong direction.
  • Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
  • A responsible adult should supervise all firework activities. Never give fireworks to children.
  • Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal trash can, away from any building or combustible materials until the next day.
  • The best place to use fireworks is on flat, level surfaces that are outside and free from debris. Avoid dry grass.
  • Sparklers should not be used by children under the age of 12 unless under close adult supervision.

Fun facts:

  • The craft of making and setting of fireworks is called pyrotechnics, from the Greek pyro, “fire,” + techne, “art.”
  • The patterns of fireworks depend on how the stars are arranged inside the shell. That is why fireworks sometimes look like smiley faces.
  • A firework’s boom is a shockwave caused by a quick release of energy that allows the air to expand faster than the speed of sound.
  • The world’s first hand-held firework, or sparkler, was created 1,300 years ago.
