The Pickerington woman had transferred the checks into a crypto account and a Cash App account. When questioned, the woman told police that she had sent the money to her boyfriend, “Andy Golden.” They connected online five years ago, but they had not had a chance to meet in person because of his deployment. The officer knocked on the door several times, and the driver slowly opened the door. When asked how much alcohol he had drunk that night, the man reportedly answered “eight to seven percent.” After a field sobriety test, the officer arrested the man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The Tesla driver followed the men and reported to police that they were at the Shell station. An officer located the Chrysler on Hill Road and attempted to pull it over, but the driver did not heed the lights and siren and sped down Birchwood, striking a stop sign and running a red light.
The vehicle came to a stop on Woodsfield Circle, and the two occupants took off on foot. The officer chased the 40-year-old passenger through several yards, but the man refused to stop until the officer threatened to taser him. He was in possession of “a large sum of money.”
The 31-year-old driver ran in a different direction and encountered a resident. Noticing that the man’s hands were bleeding, the resident, with the help of a neighbor, bandaged the wounds.
