12:00 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Residence at Turnberry on a report of a damaged fence behind the property.
2:14 p.m. Police cited a 21-year-old Reynoldsburg man after he allegedly sped down Diley Road and lost control of his vehicle. Violet Township medics transported him to a local hospital.
April 21
1:57 p.m. A 23-year-old Columbus man was cited for No Driver’s License and Speed after an officer running radar near Hill Road caught him speeding.
4:55 p.m. Police responded to a report of an unoccupied vehicle sitting in the middle of the intersection of Hill and Blacklick Eastern roads. It was towed from the scene.
6:49 p.m. Waiting in the car for his wife, a man heard a loud “boom” and looked up to see a Chrysler 300 jump the curb on Cross Creeks Boulevard and collide with an electrical box, which exploded in a large ball of fire. The car continued forward, striking light poles and downing power lines until it came to rest against Edward Warren Jewelers.
The witness raced to the scene and pulled the injured driver, a 33-year-old Canal Winchester man, from the car. When emergency responders arrived, they asked onlookers to distance themselves from the live wires scattered around the scene. South Central Power Company arrived to contain the danger and replace the damaged box.
The driver was treated at a hospital and released. He told officers he has no recollection of the accident.
April 22
10:38 a.m. An officer checked on a 23-year-old Columbus man lying in the grass in front of Comfort Inn. The man was okay but was wanted on a warrant out of Lancaster.
12:38 p.m. Police cited a 54-year-old Whitehall man for driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Hill Road near Tussing Road.
3:22 p.m. The father of a boy who used to work at Dairy Queen routinely drives past the restaurant yelling profanities and giving the middle finger.
8:57 p.m. An unknown vehicle struck a sign in the median of Diley Road near Busey Road.
April 23
1:04 a.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old Pickerington man for improper display of a license plate. The plate ended up being a dealer’s plate, which was confiscated, and the vehicle was towed.
April 24
2:38 a.m. Police were called to the Residence at Turnberry on a report that an unknown man was trying to break into an apartment. Upon arriving, officers discovered an intoxicated 55-year-old man loitering in the parking lot. He thought the apartment he had attempted to enter was his own. A family member arrived and helped him home.
4:39 a.m. An unknown vehicle struck a crosswalk signal at the intersection of Refugee and Hill roads.
8:32 a.m. A Dodge Challenger was stolen from the Willow Pond neighborhood.
April 25
3:53 a.m. A 38-year-old Pickerington man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear on Criminal Trespass charges out of the Lancaster Police Department.
4:55 p.m. A person reported that their vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of a local restaurant. Four days later, the owner called police to report that the vehicle had not actually been stolen — they had forgotten it was parked at a nearby gas station.
April 26
6:56 a.m. A 23-year-old Pickerington man was arrested for Driving Under Suspension and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated after officers were dispatched on a report of an impaired driver on Diley Road.
5:13 p.m. A backpack filled with tools was found on a sidewalk along Hill Road.
5:33 p.m. A resident reported that an unauthorized account had been created under his name with AT&T.
5:52 p.m. An unknown person keyed the side of a car parked at OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital.
10:16 p.m. After clocking a Honda Civic traveling 56 mph in a 35-mph zone on Hill Road, an officer attempted a traffic stop. At first, it appeared the vehicle was pulling over, but it turned onto Courtright Road and continued at a high rate of speed. The driver failed to navigate the turn into the Lake’s Edge Apartments and the Civic landed in a pond.
The 25-year-old Pickerington woman exited the sinking car and swam to shore. She apologized for not complying with the traffic stop, explaining that her brakes had failed. Smelling alcohol, officers asked how many drinks she had consumed that night. She reportedly said she had two tequila sodas and one shot.
After a field sobriety test, she was arrested for driving while intoxicated and brought back to the station, where she blew a 0.181 BAC. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08. The car, which had become completely submerged, was towed from the pond.
