Ohio House of Representatives candidate, Michael Scarmack, has earned a seal of approval from the non-partisan organization, Vote Common Good which recognizes candidates who will “use the common good as a guiding principle in how they govern, what policies they advocate, and the ways in which they interact with both voters and other candidates for office.”

A Candidate for Common Good is committed to six values of Common Good Communication:

  • Example: demonstrating leadership and integrity in public and private communications.
  • Curiosity: asking honest questions.
  • Clarity: by not speaking half-truths.
  • Decency: showing genuine courtesy toward all.
  • Fairness: noticing who isn’t at the table.
  • Persistence: always seeking the common good.

These guidelines are “to help politicians, the press, faith leaders (priests, pastors, rabbis, imams, etc.), and all Americans of good will to set a positive example by communicating constructively,” as stated on the Candidate for Common Good section of its website.

Mounting a historic down-ballot, statewide campaign that embraces the values promoted by Vote Common Good, Scarmack says, “I stand with the majority of voters, abiding our Ohio Constitution to defend reproductive medical freedoms, gained in Ohio in 2023, to reclaim everyone’s democracy in our gerrymandered district, working amid a politically purple sea of voters, and for addressing the array of equally important issues. As someone who cares, I am contesting the seat held by an opponent for House District 73 as I work toward fulfilling the common good.”

“Surely the answer is dependent on our own focus, say our work, our play, our art, our morality, our daily endeavor, stimulating our inner decisions, expressed singularly or collectively, for each individual’s benefit, or for our common harmony,” Scarmack said.
