Charles Newman, a Pickerington graduate, husband, and father of five, says his decision to run for the Pickerington Local School District Board of Education stems from a simple truth — students first, always.
“I am running because I believe every child deserves the very best chance to succeed,” Newman said. “Our district is rapidly growing and becoming more diverse, and it’s time for our leadership to reflect that change. Families have asked for a stronger voice at the table, one that listens, shows up, and advocates for all students. I am stepping forward to be that voice.”
Newman envisions Pickerington Schools as a district where excellence and equity go hand in hand — one that prepares students academically while also supporting their social and emotional needs. He said his goals include leading in literacy and innovation, strengthening communication between schools and families, supporting teachers and staff, and ensuring all students feel valued and safe.

Professionally, Newman works in public service for the City of Columbus and serves as Senior Pastor of Antioch Jordan. He said both roles have strengthened his ability to listen, build consensus, and unite people around shared goals.
His wife, Janna, also serves in the district, and their five children are either enrolled in or will soon attend Pickerington schools.
“Our family is deeply connected to PLSD every single day,” he said.
His platform emphasizes five priorities:

- Students First: Every child deserves a safe learning environment, smaller class sizes, and real support — including those with special needs or on alternative pathways.
- Respect for Educators: Newman supports fair pay, resources, and recognition for teachers and staff.
- Transparency & Trust: He pledges open communication, honest leadership, and accountability that keeps families informed and engaged.
- Financial Sustainability: He advocates for responsible budgeting that balances current needs with long-term stability.
- Community Partnerships: Newman believes collaboration between schools, families, and local organizations is essential to student success.
“When schools, families, and local organizations work hand in hand, we can elevate student success and strengthen our community,” Newman said. “That’s the kind of leadership I hope to bring to the board.”
