The National Weather Service in Wilmington reported that rain gauges in Fairfield County and southern Franklin County measured more than three inches of rainfall within just a few hours Saturday night, leading to widespread flooding across the area. Water levels began to recede by Sunday morning, but additional rounds of afternoon storms prompted new flash flood warnings. Low-lying roads, small creeks, and urban drainage systems were especially hard hit, and residents were urged to avoid flooded areas.

Anna Strahan said she has “lived on East Mound Street in Canal Winchester for over 30 years and the street has maybe flooded three times? and never this high.” Although her home was mostly spared, her brother next door and other neighbors had their basements flooded. Photo by Anna Strahan
