Residents in the unincorporated portions of Violet Township will see a renewal of the township’s 1.5-mill road and bridge levy on the Nov. 4 ballot. The levy funds the general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of township roads and bridges.
Township Administrator Vince Utterback said the proposed issue is a renewal, meaning there will be no increase in taxes for property owners. Residents will continue paying the same amount they have been paying under the current levy.
If the renewal is not approved, Utterback noted, the township would not be able to maintain its roads at the same level of quality and service currently provided.
According to Fairfield County Auditor Carri L. Brown, the current 1.5-mill levy is set to expire in 2025, with final collections taking place in 2026. The proposed renewal would extend the levy for another five years, with collections beginning in 2027.
“For a property owner with a home valued at $100,000, the annual estimated tax for the renewal levy is $29,” Brown said. “That is the same amount currently being paid.”
She added that, if approved, the renewal is expected to generate approximately $947,000 per year, the same amount as the current levy.
“A renewal levy is calculated using the original property valuations from when the levy was first passed,” Brown explained. “A reduction factor under House Bill 920 ensures the township collects the same revenue as before, even if property values increase.”
