Holiday Lights, in collaboration with Pickerington Local Schools (PLSD), will once again spread holiday cheer by gifting a PLSD family with a full holiday lighting display this season.

Now in its second year, the partnership honors one local family annually with complimentary holiday lighting and decorations. This year’s recipients are Diana and Michael Yoder of Brook Forest Circle, whose grandchildren attend Lakeview Junior High School. The family has faced a series of medical hardships and losses in recent years, the details of which they wished to keep private.

“We were going to minimize Christmas this year because we couldn’t foresee ourselves being able to decorate outside,” Diana told members of the press gathered on her sidewalk. The family shared that the unexpected gift brings a welcome brightness to what has been a challenging season.

Owner Kerri Vennon of Humbug Holiday Lighting’s Pickerington location said her team was eager to continue the tradition of gifting a family a bit of holiday cheer.

“This is the second year we’ve told the school district that we wanted to gift a full installation,” Vennon said. “We didn’t care what the reason was — we just asked the counselors to choose a student or family who needed a little extra cheer.”

Vennon explained that their service is designed to remove all stress for homeowners.

“This is an all-inclusive, professional holiday lighting experience. We cover everything. We own the lights and accessories, we do the installation, and we maintain the display throughout the entire season,” she said. “At the end of the holidays, we take everything down and store it at our facility during the off-season. The homeowners don’t have to do a thing. They just tell me what they want, I create a mock-up for them, and then we install it.”

Pickerington Local Schools expressed gratitude for the community partnership, sharing on Facebook: “Special thanks to Humbug Holiday Lighting of Pickerington–Reynoldsburg–Canal Winchester for making this happen.”
