LANCASTER, Ohio (August 5, 2025) — The Trail of Scarecrows is back for its seventh season, and registration is officially open. This county-wide fall tradition invites residents, businesses, organizations and civic groups from across Fairfield County—and now Canal Winchester and the Buckeye Lake Region—to show off their creativity through fun and festive scarecrow displays.
The 2025 theme, “Fair Fun: A Celebration of the 175th Fairfield County Fair,” encourages participants to celebrate the sights, sounds and traditions of one of Ohio’s most iconic fall events. While the theme is optional, organizers hope it inspires even more imagination from those eager to take part.
Each registered scarecrow will be listed on the official Trail of Scarecrows map, which guides locals and visitors across participating communities to admire displays and vote for their favorites. Winners of the People’s Choice Awards in each community will receive a prize, along with awards for top entries in several fun categories.
“This event continues to grow each year, and we’re especially excited to welcome new communities in 2025,” said Jonett Haberfield, executive director of Visit Fairfield County. “It’s a great way to bring people together, highlight our unique towns, and celebrate the creative spirit of fall in Fairfield County.”
NEW THIS YEAR is a hands-on Scarecrow Workshop taking place Wednesday, September 4, at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. For a nominal fee, participants will receive all materials needed to build their own scarecrow, which can be displayed during the fair or taken home that day. Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to brush up on your skills, this fun and relaxed workshop offers inspiration, guidance and a chance to connect with fellow creators. Space is limited, and registration details will be announced soon via Visit Fairfield County’s social media.
Prizes: $50 Visa Gift Cards and plaque awarded to the People’s Choice in each community; a commemorative glass (plus bragging rights!) for themed category winners.
