Lancaster’s Rise Up Arts Alliance is inviting adults to escape the everyday and enter a world of fantasy at The Phoenix Ball, hosted at the enchanting Wagnalls Memorial Library during Wands & Wizards Weekend. This immersive event allows guests to dress as their favorite fantastical characters—vampires, fairies, royalty, and more—and enjoy an evening full of magic, music, and delicious treats.
Cynthia Ogg, one of the organizers, says, “The Phoenix Ball and Fantasy Faire are going to be an absolute blast! Guests can step out of daily life and into a world of wonder and creativity. If you dream it, you can be it!”
Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, including the creatively designed Shadow Council Mission, a scavenger hunt-inspired adventure that promises a unique twist on the classic fantasy ball.
“People love scavenger hunts, and we wanted to give them something different,” Ogg explains. “I’ve played Dungeons and Dragons for years, and after reading popular romantasy novels, the idea really took wing.”
The event also features a Fantasy Faire, inspired by Renaissance Festivals, where small vendors will showcase unique and geeky delights for book lovers, cosplayers, and fans of all things fantastical. Guests can also enjoy expertly crafted food and drinks by master bartender Toni and chef Cindy.
“Everything they’ve crafted for past Rise Up events has been amazing,” Ogg adds.
The Phoenix Ball grew out of Ogg’s love of fantasy books and TikTok trends showcasing fantastical gatherings. Ogg pitched the idea during a discussion about fundraisers for Rise Up Arts Alliance. Judith Cosgray, Rise Up Arts Alliance’s director, helped with finding the perfect location. After scouting several options, they chose Wagnalls Memorial. Ogg recalls, “I immediately fell in love. The space is spectacular, and the more we wandered the grounds, the more we knew this was meant to be.”

For safety and focus on the adult experience, The Phoenix Ball is an 18+ event, while the accompanying Fantasy Faire allows younger guests to enjoy the fun. Ogg says, “We hope to grow this into a larger event every year, combining a night of fantasy with a community celebration of the arts.”
All proceeds from the event benefit Rise Up Arts Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing arts education to the community and fostering creativity, personal growth, and self-esteem.
Tickets are $25, includes admission, one food ticket, and one drink ticket.
