Pickerington Community Theatre (PCT) is bringing holiday cheer to Central Ohio with its whimsical production of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. This beloved cult classic, originally a 1964 holiday film, is known for its hilariously cheesy dialogue and over-the-top sci-fi elements.
“This play is our own take on the famous—or, maybe infamous?—1964 movie that many hail as one of the worst movies ever made,” said director Bram Fulk. “It’s campy and over-the-top in every wonderful way, but it’s also filled with a lot of heart and festive fun that will hit all of the right notes for the holiday season.”
The story follows the leaders of Mars, who decide to cheer up their sullen children by abducting Santa Claus from Earth. With a rocket ship, stun guns, a giant robot, and plenty of Christmas cheer, this stage adaptation promises to be a fun-filled family experience.
“This play is definitely intended for kids of all ages,” Fulk said. “Adults will love the show’s humor and how we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our younger viewers will love to see the crazy costumes and cool kid characters in the show.
We have action and suspense and, after the show’s over, they’ll have the opportunity to come up on stage with Santa and Mrs. Claus and some of our other colorful characters for pictures. The only people who won’t love this show are folks who don’t enjoy having a good time.”
The cast includes Santa Claus as himself (Bill Hafner understudy), Kyle Roby as Kimar, and Matt Stout as Voldar, among many others. Collin Dorsey from WBNS Channel 10 cameos as a news anchor. The production features an all-volunteer cast and crew, dedicated to creating memorable theatrical experiences for the community.
Fulk expressed “endless appreciation to the cast and crew who have put in incalculable time and effort to make this production something incredibly special. As well as endless appreciation to the Pickerington community and our theatre community across Central Ohio. The love and support that we receive each and every show is unparalleled.”
The performance runs the weekends of December 6 and 13 at the Violet Township Community Theater at the Wigwam (10190 Blacklick-Eastern Road NW). Fridays and Saturdays, the shows begin at 8 pm with a 2 pm Sunday matinee.
