Pickerington — As summer winds down and back-to-school sales appear in stores, not every family has the resources to purchase needed supplies. That’s why donations like those from Devin Royal—a current Ohio State University basketball player and Pickerington Central graduate—are making a difference.
Royal is donating backpacks and school supplies to students at Heritage Elementary, and he’s helping make the school’s Back to School Night more memorable by contributing pizza and a game inflatable. The event, open to Heritage students and their families, will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m.
“As a kid at heart, I have a deep passion for making a positive impact on children’s lives,” Royal said. “I believe that education is crucial, and my mission is to ensure that the elementary students I help are not only prepared for school but also have the opportunity to enjoy their experience with a fun and engaging before-school event.”
This marks Royal’s second year supporting local students. In 2024, he donated supplies to Pickerington Elementary.
“My mission is to uplift a different elementary school in Pickerington Central each year,” Royal explained. “After supporting Pickerington Elementary last year, I am inspired to stand with Heritage this year.”
Those who wish to contribute to Heritage Elementary students can drop off donations at the following locations:
- Combustion Brewery – Pickerington
- Sycamore Branch – Pickerington Public Library
- Edward Jones – Canal Winchester
- Donatos – Hill Road, Pickerington
- Revolution Mortgage – Gahanna
- Red One Realty – Westerville
“Your support in providing these essential items will make a significant difference!” Royal said. “Thank you to all volunteers, contributors, and donors for your vital role in the success of our back-to-school event. Your support makes a real difference in our community.”
