Powell Makes National History

Fred Astaire Dance Studios—Powell Makes National History with Inaugural Fred on Red Film Festival
May 15, 2025

POWELL, OH – April 16, 2025 – The red carpet was rolled out for Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Powell as the studio took center stage at the inaugural Fred on Red Premiere Film Festival—a dazzling fusion of dance, cinema, and celebration. Hosted in the heart of New York City on April 16 during the prestigious 2025 Fred Astaire Cross Country Dance Championship, this first-of-its-kind event combined a glamorous awards gala, spirited competition, and artistic showcase highlighting the magic of movement on screen. What made it even more special? This now-national initiative has its roots right here at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Powell, Ohio, where the vision first came to life thanks to our incredibly passionate and creative team.

The star-studded evening spotlighted the innovation and leadership of Studio Owner Pam Baragona and Fred Astaire Ohio Regional Director Taliat Tarsinov. Together, they pioneered the Fred on Red concept at the Powell studio four years ago— a bold idea that has since evolved into a nationwide celebration of ballroom dance through the lens of film. Supported by the studio’s exceptional production crew, they created a platform where choreography meets storytelling, giving dancers of all ages a new stage to shine and share their journeys.

“We’re truly honored and overjoyed to see our dancers recognized on a national scale,” said Baragona. “From teenagers to dancers in their 90s, Fred on Red proves that passion, creativity, and self-expression through dance transcend age.”

The festival drew hundreds of entries from Fred Astaire students nationwide – each dance film telling a heartfelt story through movement, music, and style. The NYC premiere included exclusive screenings, trophy presentations, and an electrifying dance party to wrap up the evening. And we’re thrilled to share that every single winner came from Central Ohio, a testament to the talent and heart found right here in our community.

Notable participants included Braxton Knowles, co-owner and the #2-ranked Fred Astaire national instructor, who appeared in nearly every featured video, helping shape and support students’ creative visions. Among the most celebrated acts were Kevin and Karen Pruett, who performance of “When You’re an Addams” earned both Best Film of the Year and Top Comedy/Musical honors.

Today, Fred on Red stands as a key pillar of Fred Astaire’s innovative national programming, and our sister studio, Fred Astaire of Pickerington, proudly champions the creative vision that started it all.

“Thank you to Taliat Tarsinov for dreaming up this unforgettable experience, and to Tyler Cox of Farmbrook Media for making it a reality,” said Baragona. “To every dancer who brought their story to life on screen – you made history tonight.”
