The Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society is hosting its annual summer picnic on Saturday, August 3, and everyone’s invited. From 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum (15 East Columbus Street), visitors can enjoy popcorn, hot dogs, and lemonade—free while supplies last—and take in a fun, educational afternoon with neighbors and friends.

The picnic includes full access to all museum exhibits and several special guests.

Julie Baldwin from Wild Birds Unlimited will lead an engaging presentation about backyard birds commonly found around Pickerington.

“People can expect information about birds they might see in their backyard, how to attract and feed them,” said Historical Society member Peggy Portier.

The Fairfield County Beekeepers Association will also be on hand with an interactive exhibit focused on local pollinators and the importance of bees in our environment.

The Pickerington Public Library will have a table set up in the plaza with flyers and information about programs and resources available to the community.

And of course, the museum itself will be open for browsing. It’s a great chance to explore Pickerington’s past while enjoying the present.

Looking ahead, the Historical Society is also planning a special dedication in September to honor former board members who have passed away:

  • Dale England, Jr.
  • Gene Houser
  • John Grunewald
  • Greg Karoly
  • George Hallenbrook
  • Fred Brackbill
  • Gary Weaver

“We are dedicating an appreciation plaque at the museum for deceased board members,” Portier said. “There will be a short dedication with information about each one, followed by light refreshments.”

Whether you’re interested in birds, bees, or just a good hot dog on a summer afternoon, the Historical Society picnic is a chance to connect with the community and celebrate local heritage.
