Pickerington preschoolers had front-row seats to history earlier this month when The Goddard School of Pickerington joined thousands of classmates nationwide in a record-breaking storytime. On Sept. 3, 6,535 devices tuned in as beloved Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns read Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse live on YouTube—earning a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for most viewers of a reading live stream.
Sarah Comer, on-site owner of The Goddard School of Pickerington, said it was a moment her students and teachers won’t soon forget. “Yes, our attempt at a Guinness World Record was an extraordinary success! It was an amazing feeling to come together with Goddard Schools nationwide and promote National Literacy Month,” Comer said.
The event was broadcast from The Goddard School of Manhattan (StuyTown), but locally, Pickerington students experienced the excitement firsthand. “The children were very engaged with Steve’s reading of Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse and they cheered when the Guinness World Record certificate was presented,” Comer said.
While many of the preschoolers were too young to know Steve Burns from his Blue’s Clues days, their parents were thrilled to see him take part. “Our children were not born during Steve’s time at Blue’s Clues, but their parents had fond memories of him and were very excited for his participation,” Comer noted.
For Comer, the most memorable part of the day was the curiosity sparked in her students. “The children wanted to know what a Guinness World Record was, who Steve was, and what school they were reading the book at. Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse is all about inquiry, and this event allowed our children to be curious and engaged,” she said.
