2:30 a.m. — When a police cruiser pulled in behind his Kia Optima on Long Road, a 27-year-old man allegedly looped through the Longview Highlands subdivision. After stopping the vehicle, the officer discovered the driver had no license, was wanted on a warrant out of Akron, and was displaying a license plate registered to another car.
3:50 a.m. — Police stopped a Honda Civic for straddling the center line on Long Road. The 21-year-old driver reportedly said he had drunk “only one beer,” not counting the partially consumed Modelo inside the car. After field-sobriety tests, he was taken to the police station, where he declined a breath-test and reportedly resisted fingerprinting; he was transferred to the Fairfield County Jail.
7:53 p.m. — Two teenage girls who had “beef” over a boy happened upon each other while shopping with their mothers at Dollar General. After a verbal exchange, the girls allegedly began fighting in the Health & Beauty aisle. When one mother refused to pull her daughter away, the other mother intervened, leading to a second altercation between the adults. As officers separated the parties, one girl allegedly said, “Told her I was going to catch her out.”
9:30 p.m. — An Uber driver said her Toyota was rear-ended on westbound Columbus Street at the Lockville Road light. The other vehicle turned around and fled. The driver tried to follow but her passenger requested to be let out and she lost sight of the car.
May 19
10:07 a.m. — A woman came to the police station to report telephone harassment by an ex-boyfriend. When the report was finished, the officer informed her she was being arrested on a Licking County warrant. She allegedly asked to “run back home” because her four-year-old daughter was sleeping.
11:07 a.m. — After allegedly hearing two employees cursing each other, a manager at Amber Park Assisted Living terminated them both. Later that day, the sister of one of the women—also an employee—phoned the manager and allegedly threatened to have their mother “kick her ass.” The sister was terminated as well.
7:32 p.m. — Officers were told a suspected shoplifter had stashed merchandise in bushes outside Kohl’s. When confronted in the parking lot, the man reportedly admitted he was “boosting.” He said he had been given $300 and a list of items to steal. Recovered merchandise totaled $596.48.
11:24 p.m. — A silver Ford Explorer allegedly struck a black Toyota Camry on Preston Trails Drive, causing “heavy front-end damage,” and fled. Officers soon found the Explorer nearby and cited the 25-year-old driver for leaving the scene of an accident.
May 20
8:40 a.m. — Staff at Enterprise Rent-A-Car found a loaded SCCY handgun magazine in a returned vehicle.
1:40 p.m. — After stopping a Buick Verano at Columbus Street and Lockville Road for expired registration, an officer learned the 27-year-old driver had no license and was wanted on a Westerville warrant.
9:03 p.m. — A woman accidentally left her wallet—containing $900 in cash—on a seat armrest at Marcus Cinema. When she returned, it was gone. Police identified suspects, who returned the wallet and contents.
May 21
8:57 a.m. — A clothes-dryer fire was reported at Violet Springs Health Campus.
2:43 p.m. — Police issued a no-trespass order to a former Dairy Queen employee.
May 23
11:52 a.m. — A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle in Preston Trails; the owner did not know when or where the theft occurred.
May 24
1:22 a.m. — An officer stopped a Jeep Cherokee on Hill Road near Turnberry Apartments after it allegedly stopped at several yellow lights and weaved between lanes. The officer smelled alcohol, but the 50-year-old driver denied drinking. After field-sobriety tests, he was taken to the station, where he refused a breath-test.
1:39 a.m. — A resident reported a drunk man pounding on her door. Officers located the 38-year-old suspect in a Chevrolet Silverado. He initially locked himself inside, forcing an officer to prepare to break a window; he eventually unlocked the door but clung to the steering wheel, saying, “I’m stronger than I look.” When an officer produced a Taser, he complied. He refused a breath-test and was found to be unlicensed.
