8:40 p.m. A Ford F-150 struck the concrete base of a light pole in the parking lot of Get Air Trampoline Park. That night, it was raining heavily, and the county was under a tornado warning. The 42-year-old driver stated that only one of the lights in the lot was working, and he did not see the pole.
March 31
7:25 p.m. Police were called to Classics Sports Bar to intervene in a fight between a 35-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman. When officers arrived, the man explained that it had been a misunderstanding – his girlfriend had spilled her drink on him. The couple were issued “No Trespass” orders, and the woman was arrested on a warrant out of Lancaster.
April 1
3:26 a.m. In the Overland Park area, two boys allegedly broke windows and attempted to steal two Kias and a Hyundai.
6:50 a.m. A 12-year-old girl, reportedly trying to catch her bus, ran in front of a Ford Explorer on McLeod Parc in Melrose. Violet Township Medics transported her to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with minor injuries.
April 2
1:16 a.m. An officer pulled over a Dodge Journey near the traffic circle on Refugee Road because its license plate was unsecured, and its registration expired. The 31-year-old woman driving the vehicle did not have a license and was wanted on a warrant out of Reynoldsburg.
2:44 p.m. After her credit card was declined at Volunteers of America, a 50-year-old woman allegedly took the merchandise anyway and drove off in a Hyundai Elantra. Police caught up with the vehicle, but the driver reportedly ignored the lights and sirens, continuing to drive the speed limit to her condo in The Homestead.
The woman allegedly continued to ignore the officers as she unloaded her vehicle and walked toward her home. Police arrested her and confiscated the stolen merchandise, including a purse that was reportedly protruding from her bra. The value of the items totaled $218.83.
April 3
12:43 a.m. Police pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu on Hill Road near Interstate 70 for not having a license plate light. The 33-year-old driver had a suspended license and no insurance.
9:16 a.m. A 31-year-old woman told police she had applied for a loan from a company called “Lending Club.” The company asked for her bank account information, then withdrew $500 from her account.
9:44 p.m. Police arrested a 61-year-old man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after the Hyundai Tucson he was driving went off the road and hit a tree in front of Steak ‘n Shake. His blood alcohol content (BAC) measured 0.194. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
10:50 p.m. Westerville police contacted Pickerington police after a student at Ridgeview Junior High allegedly posted in a group chat that she planned to “shoot up” a track meet between Minerva Middle School and Heritage Middle School, scheduled for April 4 at Westerville North High School.
April 4
6:30 p.m. A green Toyota Camry allegedly made an improper lane change on southbound Hill Road and collided with a black Honda CR-V. The Camry driver fled the scene, but a witness in a third vehicle captured the incident on a dash camera. Columbus police reportedly visited the Camry owner’s home and noted scratches and dents on the vehicle. The man said he had not been driving.
9:23 p.m. A Fairfield County Sheriff’s Deputy, responding to a call, lost control on the wet pavement of North Center Street and hydroplaned off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck multiple trees and an electric pole before coming to rest in the Farmer’s Market lot. The deputy was transported to Ohio Health Pickerington.
10:51 p.m. Pickerington police assisted the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department with an alleged drunk driver near Cardo’s Pizza. The 41-year-old man reportedly told the officer he had “a couple beers.” When the officer asked about the empty Fireball bottle in the man’s Toyota Corolla, the suspect allegedly replied that he “maybe” had drank it too. He declined a breathalyzer test.
April 5
3:22 a.m. A 16-year-old boy allegedly stole a Hyundai Elantra from the Mr. Tire lot.
5:40 p.m. A patient at Violet Springs Health Campus told police she had entered the facility with $426, which was now missing.
8:25 p.m. A Honda Odyssey traveling southbound on Hill Road near Scrambler’s allegedly crossed the median and knocked down a sign. The vehicle continued driving the wrong way until it collided with a Toyota Corolla. After completing a field sobriety test, the 41-year-old driver of the Honda was taken to the police station, where his BAC measured 0.219. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
10:10 p.m. As a Honda Accord was leaving the front parking lot of the Pickerington Police Station, it was allegedly struck by a Rav4 that was entering. The Rav4 then exited the front lot and parked in the restricted area behind the station.
An officer approached the vehicle, knocked on the window, and asked the 50-year-old driver, “What are you doing?” The man allegedly responded, “I’m driving home.” When asked if he knew where he was, the man reportedly answered, “Hilliard.” When asked how much alcohol he had consumed that night, the man allegedly said, “Two glasses of wine.”
After a field sobriety test, the man was placed under arrest. He blew a 0.319 BAC. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
