12:31 a.m. Police arrested a 28-year-old man for trespassing at OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital. He allegedly attempted to sneak into a conference room after regular office hours, intending to sleep there overnight.
5:29 p.m. A Westerville man reported paying $3,000 to a man in Longview Highlands for a 2014 Mercedes-Benz, with the understanding that he would pay another $2,130 upon delivery. However, the Pickerington man allegedly returned to his home country without delivering the vehicle or refunding the money.
7:10 p.m. An officer stopped a Lexus SUV for traveling 43 mph in the 25-mph zone on Columbus Street near Diley Road. The 28-year-old woman driving the Lexus had previously been warned during a separate traffic stop to replace the expired license plate, which belonged to another vehicle.
10:42 p.m. Emergency crews responded to Interstate 70 and Hill Road for a report of a 2016 Hyundai Tucson on fire.
June 23
10:28 a.m. With temperatures in the mid-eighties and rising, shoppers at Giant Eagle called police about an Irish setter locked in a Honda CR-V with no food or water. When officers arrived, the dog was panting heavily. They attempted to contact the 69-year-old woman to whom the vehicle was leased, but when she didn’t answer, they opened the car and took the dog to the police station.
Almost an hour later, the woman entered the station lobby, reportedly yelling that the police had “stole” her dog. After officers explained they had taken the setter to prevent it from overheating, her anger faded, and she expressed gratitude. She told them she couldn’t leave the dog home alone with her cat.
She was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, and the dog was taken to an animal shelter.
5:17 p.m. An Amazon van broke down at the intersection of Columbus and Center Streets, blocking traffic.
June 26
2:31 a.m. An officer stopped a Honda Accord on Refugee Road near Stonecreek Drive South after it allegedly struck the median. Neither the driver nor his three passengers had valid driver’s licenses.
2:51 a.m. After breaking up a fight in the parking lot of Twins Tavern, police arrested one of the four men involved on a warrant from the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department.
11:10 a.m. A woman reported receiving a threatening letter at her workplace. The message referenced personal information that could have been obtained from her Facebook account.
2:33 p.m. The Loss Prevention Officer at Kohl’s reported that a woman had placed beauty products in her purse and was preparing to leave without paying. When officers caught up with her in the parking lot, she was walking toward a white Mercedes with a false plate. The unidentified driver fled the scene. The value of the merchandise recovered was $874.
June 27
12:54 a.m. Patrons at Heritage Lounge called police to remove a belligerent 34-year-old man who was allegedly trying to fight customers and had struck a bartender. As police began to arrest him, the man allegedly exclaimed, “Oh no! I’m losing consciousness,” and fell onto one of the officers.
He reportedly made angry comments as Violet Township medics lifted him—limp—onto a cot. At the hospital, he allegedly insulted staff and threatened the officer accompanying him. After being cleared by hospital personnel, he was transported to the Fairfield County Jail.
1:28 a.m. Officers arrested a 33-year-old woman at Speedway on a warrant out of Perry County.
11:22 a.m. Employees at Enterprise Rent-A-Car found a Ruger LCP pistol, missing its magazine, in the console of a returned vehicle. The most recent rental paperwork was under the name of a man who passed away in 2019.
9:35 p.m. The driver of a black Kia Optima followed a gray Honda Accord that had allegedly struck his vehicle near Marcus Cinema but failed to stop. When the Accord pulled into the parking lot of Peace United Methodist Church, the Kia driver called police. Officers stopped the Accord.
Smelling alcohol, an officer asked the 21-year-old Honda driver how much he had consumed. He allegedly responded, “Not too much,” then changed his answer to “none at all” when pressed. After a field sobriety test, he was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Inside the car, police allegedly found multiple BuzzBalls and shooters (small liquor bottles), many of them empty. At the station, he reportedly blew a 0.241 BAC. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
10:39 p.m. An officer stopped a Chevy Impala exiting from I-70 onto southbound Hill Road for a missing taillight and no license plate light. A K-9 unit alerted to the presence of illegal drugs. The driver allegedly admitted that the marijuana in the car was his but claimed that any harder drugs belonged to his passengers, saying he had become sort of “an Uber for crackheads.” Officers allegedly found drugs and paraphernalia in the purses of the two passengers.
June 29
1:54 p.m. An unidentified woman wearing black scrubs and purple Crocs attempted to purchase a gift card at LongHorn Steakhouse using a counterfeit $100 bill. Although the paper passed an authenticity check, the printed images appeared suspicious. Police believe the bill may have originally been a lower denomination that was washed and reprinted.
