Pickerington Police July 9 – 11, 2024

July 9

12:31 pm The Loss Prevention Officer from Giant Eagle reported that on July 3 at 3:55 pm, a man allegedly asked a staff member to transfer $2,300 for him via Western Union. He and the clerk both counted 23 $100 bills into a stack on the counter.

While the clerk was distracted making the transfer, the man allegedly removed 13 of the $100 bills from the stack. Five minutes later, the man allegedly requested another transaction of $2,300 and once again removed 13 of the $100 bills, resulting in a total loss to the store of $2,600.

The suspect also allegedly targeted the Giant Eagle in New Albany that same week. The identification that the man allegedly provided for both him and the intended recipient was fake.

3:59 pm A woman reported that a hubcap and lug nuts were stolen from her Chevrolet Conquest parked at the Turnberry Apartments.

July 10

4:48 am A 46-year-old woman was cited for drug possession, receiving stolen property, and improper handling of a firearm after officers found her allegedly passed out in a car parked at Sheetz.

4:05 pm A 19-year-old woman reported that she had fallen victim to a scam. A stranger on Instagram offered her $400 to model for a portrait. She agreed, and they emailed her a check for $2,500, which she deposited. Using a cash app, she sent back $825 of the amount she had been “overpaid.” Realizing that she had been scammed, she stopped sending money, at which point the stranger allegedly threatened to involve the FBI and an assassin. They sent her disturbing videos to back their threat. The check bounced.

4:37 pm A man reported that the phone he had ordered from Amazon had been stolen from the drop box outside Drug Mart.

5:26 pm An officer pulled over a Dodge Challenger at Circle K for expired plates. The 28-year-old male driver was wanted on a warrant from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.


July 11

6:20 am Police were called to Longview Highlands on a report that the window of a work van had been busted and $3,000 worth of tools stolen. Surveillance footage from 4:15 am allegedly showed three masked teens shining a light into the back of the van. As they looked directly at the camera, one allegedly asked, “What you wanna do?” The camera had been turned and therefore did not record any theft.

7:22 am An employee of South Central Power reported that power tools were stolen from his work truck parked in front of his home in Longview Acres. Surveillance footage allegedly showed three thin men wearing hoods and masks arrive in a white SUV. They are suspected to be the same individuals from the robbery reported at 6:20 am.

9:55 am Pickerington Schools reported that three individuals broke into the football stadium behind Ridgeview Junior High and vandalized it.

10:18 am A 23-year-old woman was issued a “No Trespass” order for Kohl’s after allegedly being caught on surveillance concealing merchandise. She was wanted on a warrant out of Lancaster.

10:24 am A resident of Preston Trails reported that overnight, a drill and drill bits were stolen from his truck. Surveillance footage allegedly showed two individuals wearing masks and gloves pull up in a white van, then begin searching through both trucks parked at the home. One individual allegedly turned the camera to face away from the driveway. The suspects are believed to be the same individuals from the earlier reports from Longview Highlands.

6:31 pm Police responded to a report that tools valued at $1,090 had been taken from a work truck parked in Preston Trails.

7:11 pm A juvenile told police that two people he did not know called him by name and robbed him of $350 outside the Subway in Olde Pickerington Village.
