12:24 a.m. Someone egged a car on Lorraine Boulevard and added a slice of cheese.

5:11 p.m. Three women allegedly stole from Five Below, then left the scene in a Nissan Versa. When police called the registered owner of the vehicle, she allegedly replied that she was currently getting her hair done. She said someone must have stolen her car, then hung up before the officer could ask any more questions.

June 2

12:28 p.m. The manager of Speedway asked police to issue a trespass notice to an employee who had allegedly been caught on camera shoplifting lighters and cigars. The woman reportedly returned to the store at 5:17 a.m. on June 3, and police were called again to remove her.

3:19 p.m. In the lot of the Hill Road Kroger, a witness reported that a black Cadillac XTS hit a white Nissan Murano and damaged the bumper. When police contacted the 77-year-old Cadillac owner, he allegedly admitted to hitting the Nissan but claimed there was no damage. He said that the owner of the Nissan was trying to scam him.

9:52 p.m. An officer stopped a Buick LaCrosse on Old Diley Road after it allegedly ran a red light. The 51-year-old driver told officers he had drunk one beer, but he reportedly smelled of alcohol, and the officer spotted a vodka bottle wrapped in a paper bag behind the passenger seat. After a field sobriety test, the man was arrested for driving under the influence. He refused to take a breathalyzer test.

June 5

10:16 a.m. An unknown person parked a rented Toyota Camry in the middle of Taylor’s Way. Police had the vehicle towed to resume traffic. Because the Camry was locked, officers could not inventory the contents, though a purse and wallet were visible through the window.

3:55 p.m. A teller at the Lan-Fair Federal Credit Union suspected fraud when a man attempted to cash a check for $11,400 written earlier that day at the credit union’s Lancaster branch. She recognized the account as belonging to a customer loyal to the Pickerington branch—who happened to have visited a few hours earlier. Additionally, the check was drawn on a home equity line, which the account holder had never used as a checking account.

When the teller asked who gave him the check, the man allegedly said he didn’t remember the woman’s name, only that she had paid him for building a deck. He also claimed not to remember her address but said he would retrieve the information from his truck. He never returned.

The account holder confirmed she had not written the check and had not hired anyone to build a deck. The Lancaster staff reported that earlier that day, a woman presented a driver’s license matching the account and requested the check. The photo on the ID resembled the woman, so staff did not suspect fraud.

Back in Pickerington, the teller provided police with a photocopy of the driver’s license the male suspect had provided. The photo matched the one on file for that individual.

June 6

5:39 p.m. A 38-year-old man suspected of repeatedly shoplifting from the Hill Road Kroger evaded the store manager and a police officer waiting for him in the parking lot, fleeing in a Ford F-350.

An officer patrolling Diley Road spotted the truck and pulled it over near the George’s Creek neighborhood. The truck, which the man said belonged to a friend, had a fictitious plate, and the man’s driver’s license was suspended. He was also wanted on a felony warrant out of Worthington, where he was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Kroger located the missing shopping cart but found no missing merchandise. Police also found no groceries in the truck but allegedly recovered drug paraphernalia.

9:12 p.m. Police arrested a woman on Brookview Circle on a warrant from the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

9:41 p.m. City workers discovered a damaged streetlight near the intersection of Columbus Street and Hill Road.

11:24 a.m. Police recovered a GMC Yukon reported stolen in Licking County. The vehicle was found in the Homestead neighborhood.

5:37 p.m. “Mr. Cone,” an exit sign shaped like an ice cream cone, disappeared from Dairy Queen. The restaurant posted a surveillance image to social media showing the suspects also attempting to steal the restaurant’s giant red spoon. After Facebook followers quickly identified the two teenage suspects, police contacted their families. Mr. Cone was returned to the store, damaged, with a $5 bill taped to the sign.
