8:21 am: Workers at the Whitten Farm Market produce stand called police to report a 36-year-old man acting strangely and refusing to leave. When officers arrived, the man allegedly climbed into a Chevrolet Tahoe and sped away toward Refugee Road, where he crashed into a fence. Alcohol was believed to be a factor.
8:14 pm: Unknown teenagers allegedly threw ice cream at Dairy Queen staff and then threatened to hurt them.
July 29
9:40 pm: An unknown man allegedly stuffed a 24-ounce can of Four Loko into the pocket of his brown hoodie and then walked out of Circle K. He left in a blue Ford sports utility vehicle. His hoodie read, “I’m so good, I’m illegal in 55 states,” and he wore yellow and blue pajama pants.
July 30
10:13 am: A 28-year-old woman is suspected of breaking the windows of a Nissan Rogue parked in the Reserve at Pickerington Ponds.
5:39 pm: A 61-year-old woman reported that someone had opened bank accounts using her information and gambled in Las Vegas.
9:26 pm: Police pulled over a Toyota Camry on Hill Road near Diley because the 22-year-old driver did not have a driver’s license.
9:46 pm: An officer came upon a Hyundai Sonata parked in the middle of Refugee Road near Windmiller Drive. The 24-year-old driver allegedly said that the Hyundai had broken down but asked that the vehicle not be towed because her family needed it for work. The officer maneuvered the car into the Ohio Health Pickerington Medical Campus parking lot. The woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Grove City.
July 31
12:56 am: A tire was allegedly slashed on a Honda Civic parked at the Lakes Edge Apartments.
August 1
4:44 pm: Three individuals allegedly stole armfuls of clothing from Kohl’s valued at $695.82, then took off in a stolen Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle allegedly took off at a high rate of speed on Stonecreek Drive South toward Refugee Road.
5:44 pm: A 37-year-old man pulled into the Steak n Shake parking lot after the Chrysler he was driving began to smoke. He and his son safely exited the vehicle before the engine became fully engulfed in flames.
August 2
2:29 am: A 19-year-old man was cited for not having a driver’s license after he allegedly made a U-turn near Speedway to travel southbound on Hill Road. He also allegedly was only driving 30 mph in a 45-mph zone, and the Toyota Corolla he drove had a broken left taillight.
6:43 am: Video surveillance allegedly showed a man park a BMW in the lot of Country Inn & Suites at 5:16 am, then steal a Chevrolet Silverado. At 5:35 am, the man allegedly returned for the BMW. At 10:08 am, Columbus Police recovered the Silverado on Smith Road.
August 3
2:29 am: A 70-year-old woman reported that someone had broken the basement window in her Shadow Oaks home. The dispatch log data indicated a 56-year-old man as the suspect.
1:36 pm: After receiving a parking ticket from Atlanta, a 45-year-old woman allegedly learned that the license plate from her Toyota Rav 4 had been stolen.
7:09 pm: A 41-year-old man told police that an Infiniti QX60 nearly hit his Honda Civic on Hill Road near Refugee, so he hit the horn and flipped his middle finger. The 34-year-old driving the Infiniti allegedly throwing something at the Civic when they were both stopped at the State Route 204 traffic light.
The Infiniti driver denied throwing anything at the Civic and told police that the entire incident was bizarre and that he was not sure why the other driver was angry.
August 5
12:10 am: Police were called to the Steak n Shake drive-thru after customers reported that a Nissan Altima hit their Toyota Scion. They told police that the 19-year-old driver in the Altima behind them in line had gestured angrily at them, then gently drove into their back bumper.
After conducting a field sobriety test, officers placed the man under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He allegedly was unable to provide a urine sample but did ask if he could vomit in in the collection tube. When the police began to inventory his wallet, the man allegedly “immediately became sad” and asked if the officers could ignore the two fake driver’s licenses.
2:49 am: An officer pulled over a Jeep Wrangler near Allpets after it allegedly weaved multiple times into the oncoming lane of Hill Road. The 36-year-old man driving the Wrangler refused a breathalyzer test.
9:54 am: Someone allegedly broke into a home on Courtright Drive and stole items.
10:56 am: A 36-year-old man allegedly stole $508.98 worth of merchandise from Kohl’s.
7:29 pm: A husband and wife (ages 49 and 44) reported that an unknown person opened 14 bank accounts using their identities.
8:10 pm: A company called “Dropin” allegedly messaged a 28-year-old man over Instagram that it had paid him $40,000 for services which he had yet to render. The man reported to the police that he believed a former business partner used his identity to scam the company.
11:37 pm: A 34-year-old woman called police to her home in the Sycamore Creek neighborhood to issue “No Trespass” orders to a group of five teenagers (ages 16 to 18) who allegedly wanted to fight her daughter.
August 6
3:14 pm: A 29-year-old man told police that an unknown person had opened a Verizon account under his name.
August 7
12:53 am: A black 2015 Audi S4 with no license plate allegedly crashed into a Kia Sorento parked near the apartments on Birchwood Street. The Audi was not operable, and the driver had fled the scene.
1:52 pm: A road rage incident on Diley Road allegedly escalated from middle fingers and brake checks to the 74-year-old driver of a Genesis G80 pointing a revolver at the 55-year-old driver of a Ford F-350.
August 9
11:16 am: Employees at Goodwill gave police assorted shotgun shells that had been found amongst other donations.
3:36 pm: Two women (ages 24 and 26) were allegedly caught shoplifting from the Sephora area of Kohl’s.
August 10
2:02 am: Police pulled over a Chrysler 300 for not having a license plate light. The 20-year-old driver did not have a license and allegedly possessed marijuana.
7:37 am: A trailer valued at $2,699.99 was allegedly stolen from outside Tractor Supply Co.
4:59 pm: Upon encountering an officer outside the front door of Kohl’s, a 45-year-old man allegedly uttered, “I am going to put them back,” then removed a pair of stolen tennis shoes from the front of his pants. He was also allegedly wearing a pair of stolen shoes. The slippers that he wore into the store were discovered in a shoe box and returned to him.
9:12 pm: Dispatch received a call stating that someone had run the red light at Hill Road and Tussing, then collided with a telephone pole. Live wires fell over the top of a vehicle, but the occupants remained inside until emergency crews removed the cables. The driver had also allegedly hit several vehicles parked at Comfort Inn.
