1:27 a.m.
An officer attempted to stop a Honda Civic traveling 69 mph in a 45-mph zone on Hill Road. The 25-year-old driver took the ramp onto eastbound I-70, reaching speeds of 100 mph. The officer disengaged the pursuit.
Later, police tracked the woman to an apartment in Overland Park. Her boyfriend claimed they’d been home all night, but the woman came forward and allegedly admitted she had been driving. She reportedly said she didn’t see or hear the officer’s lights and sirens due to distractions from tinted windows, navigation apps, and incoming phone calls.
July 14
11:30 a.m.
The loss prevention officer at Kohl’s reported that a 46-year-old woman allegedly shoplifted $921 in merchandise on July 2. She reportedly returned on July 8 and took an additional $399 worth of items.
11:46 a.m.
An 83-year-old woman accidentally crashed her Ford Fusion into a window at Fairfield Federal Bank. No serious injuries were reported.
1:14 p.m.
After crashing into the window of Fifth Third Bank, a 76-year-old woman reportedly reversed her Honda CR-V and hit two other vehicles. No serious injuries were reported.
2:47 p.m.
A Ford Escape was pulled over on Courtright Drive for allegedly displaying expired license plates registered to a Lexus.
3:24 p.m.
An officer observed a 31-year-old man behaving suspiciously at the BP station—repeatedly getting in and out of his car and speaking on the phone. After receiving a ride from an Acura TLX, the officer approached the man’s parked Honda and saw three hypodermic needles inside.
Officers later located the Acura in Pickerington Village and questioned the man, who allegedly admitted to having a drug problem. A search of his backpack revealed nine additional used syringes, which he said he received through Safe Point, a Franklin County syringe exchange program.
According to its website:
“You get one new syringe for each used syringe you return to us. You can also get 10 new syringes each visit without bringing in used syringes.”
11:53 p.m.
On Hereford Drive, a 69-year-old man allegedly blasted music in hopes his neighbors would call the police. When they didn’t, he called them himself.
He asked the responding officer to supervise while he unloaded a refrigerator and stove from a trailer, but she declined and advised him to ask a neighbor in the morning.
The man reportedly became belligerent. As the officer drove away, he flagged her down to offer a box of doughnuts, which she declined.
Later, police returned when the music resumed. The stove had been moved, but the man still wanted help with the refrigerator. He again offered doughnuts, which the officers again declined.
Angered, the man allegedly shouted obscenities, brandished a lighter, and attempted to snatch the citation book. Officers restrained and arrested him.
July 15
1:23 p.m.
A 46-year-old woman driving a Ford Escape allegedly struck a Chevrolet Cruze while turning onto Winderly Lane. She was cited for failure to yield. The other driver, a 25-year-old, was cited for driving without a license.
5:28 p.m.
Kroger on Hill Road requested that police issue “No Trespass” orders to three teenagers misusing motorized scooters.
July 17
4:30 p.m.
A 37-year-old woman allegedly stole 18 sets of Carter’s baby clothes from Kohl’s.
5:12 p.m.
At some point along her journey from Louisiana to Ohio, Amtrak misplaced a 74-year-old woman’s luggage. However, she received notification that her luggage had been found and would be FedExed to her at her daughter’s home in Pickerington.
When the packages arrived, instead of her two suitcases, the boxes contained unsealed bags filled with bright green powder. The woman told the police that her skin itched after touching the unknown substance. Neither the Columbus Fire Department Hazmat Team nor the Columbus Fire Department Bomb Squad could identify the powder. Scans determined the substance was not a drug nor an explosive.
July 18
2:36 a.m.
An officer attempted to stop a Honda Civic traveling the wrong way on Hill Road. The car swerved back into the correct lane and accelerated to 100 mph. Flock cameras later identified the car and the 25-year-old driver, who had been cited five days earlier for a similar offense.
At her apartment, officers found the vehicle with new front-end damage. The woman allegedly admitted to drinking at Finnegan’s Wake and crashing into a cemetery sign. Her blood alcohol content measured 0.141; the legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
9:15 p.m.
At Windmiller Square, a Honda Odyssey rear-ended a Chrysler Town & Country. All four Chrysler occupants required medical attention. The driver of the Honda allegedly fled on foot. The vehicle had fictitious plates.
July 19
3:20 a.m.
An officer stopped a Honda Accord that was traveling the wrong way down Hill Road from Reynoldsburg toward Pickerington. As he approached the car, the officer reported seeing the 24-year-old driver “making a lot of movements.”
The officer removed the driver from the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. The man allegedly told police he had been distracted by incoming texts. When asked if he was trying to hide something, he reportedly said “no,” but admitted there was an unloaded pistol in the glove compartment.
The officer found the gun where the man had said it would be, but a full magazine was located between the driver’s seat and the center console. During a pat-down, police also found a single 9mm bullet in the man’s pocket. When asked, the man denied unloading the weapon after being pulled over; however, his passenger told officers otherwise. The man did not have a valid driver’s license.
11:34 a.m.
A 20-year-old Marcus Cinema employee reported harassment by a 52-year-old man she briefly dated before learning he was a registered sex offender. She found an envelope taped to the theater door containing a letter from the man attempting to explain his 2001 conviction.
2:18 p.m.
A couple suspected of shoplifting fragrances from Kohl’s and Ulta Beauty were allegedly spotted again at Ulta. They fled from police in a stolen Toyota Corolla after pretending to pull over near El Vaquero. Surveillance footage helped identify the suspects.
2:57 p.m.
Someone smashed the window of a van parked near Birchwood Street and stole tools.
11:21 p.m.
A bicycle was stolen from an open garage in the George’s Creek neighborhood.
