Pickerington Police December 16-28, 2024

December 16

1:18 pm: Police pulled over a Volkswagen Jetta on Interstate 70 just past Hill Road because the registered owner was wanted on a Summit County warrant.

2:37 am: A Fairfield County Sheriff’s Deputy requested Pickerington Police assistance after the driver of a red Kia reportedly refused to pull over on Interstate 70 and took the State Route 204 exit. The vehicle came to a stop near Echo Manor. The 40-year-old driver did not have a license and was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Drugs and used hypodermic needles were allegedly found in the car.

2:03 pm: Kohl’s reportedly called the Zettler Hardware staff to warn them that a suspected thief had left their store and was heading in their direction. A Zettler employee found the man in the back of the store allegedly cutting zip ties that secured a drill to a display. The staff escorted the man to the parking lot only to realize later that a DeWalt Cut Off Tool was also missing from the display.

4:48 pm: Police apprehended two men (ages 33 and 42) who were allegedly shoplifting from Kohl’s.

5:50 pm: After the GMC Acadia she was driving allegedly rear-ended a Buick Envista near the intersection of Hill Road and Interstate 70, a 37-year-old woman was cited for having no insurance and driving without a license.

December 17

2:36 pm: A 19-year-old man allegedly told police that he had been traveling too fast to negotiate the curve on Brighton Street near Preston Trails Park. Neighbors reported that the man’s Tesla Model 3 jumped the curb, took out a mailbox, and then traveled through multiple front yards before returning to the street. Police noted that the suspension for the right front tire appeared damaged.

4:11 pm: According to a dispatch call log, an employee at Scarlet Dental reportedly called in a false prescription to the pharmacy in Reynoldsburg’s Walmart.

5:22 pm: A white vehicle (possibly a Nissan) allegedly sideswiped a black Toyota Camry at the intersection of Hill Road and State Route 204 but did not stop.

December 19

6:27 am: Police found a 27-year-old woman wandering around the parking lots of Giant Eagle and Mr. Tire. She appeared to be very intoxicated, and officers called the Violet Township medics because she allegedly moved lethargically and could not form words. As the ambulance rushed her to the hospital, a 37-year-old man arrived on the scene. He reportedly told the officers that he had saved the woman from a sex trafficking ring in Memphis, and they became a couple. He said that when he woke, she was missing, and he called 9-1-1 for help finding her. The man was wanted on a warrant out of Westerville.

2:49 pm: An officer cited a 17-year-old boy for driving without a license after the Chevrolet Malibu he was driving allegedly continued traveling west on Church Street without stopping at the Cross Street sign.

December 20

2:30 am: An officer stopped a Subaru near the intersection of Hill Road and Interstate 70 for failure to properly display a license plate and for an alleged marked lanes violation. When he approached the 20-year-old driver, the officer reportedly smelled marijuana. The driver told the officer that he had only had a “zip” (one ounce). In Ohio, you must be 21 years old to have marijuana, but the man said that he had permission from his doctor. The officer confiscated a little over 40 grams of marijuana and told the driver that he could reclaim the drugs from the police station if he produced a letter from his physician.

9:07 am: A 25-year-old man was cited for driving without a license after he allegedly tried to drive around the barrier to turn left onto Diley Road from Windmiller Drive. His Hyundai Sonata struck a Ford Transit that was traveling southbound.

10:17 pm: Police cited a 40-year-old man for driving without a license after his Chrysler 300 rear-ended a Ford Edge on Tussing Road at Winderly Lane.

December 21

4:57 am: A dispatcher removed a traffic sign from Diley Road near Fox Glen East. Police discovered tire tracks through the grass median where the sign had previously stood.

5:57 am: A resident of Redbud Commons reported that overnight someone had broken into his Honda Accord and damaged the steering column. It was discovered that two vehicles in George’s Creek had been similarly damaged overnight.

10:10 am: In the Graystone neighborhood, a Rottweiler allegedly slipped free from her leash and bit the neck of a Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise that was also out for a walk.

11:36 am: Police were called to GNC after a 40-year-old man allegedly broke a sign and threw items onto the floor. Officers proceeded to the man’s home in Longview Acres to present him with a “No Trespass Order” for GNC. The man allegedly told the officers, “I don’t support the police, I don’t f__k with the police, I stay away from the police.” The officers drove to a school parking lot and a few minutes later they spotted the man’s vehicle approaching at a “high rate of speed.” He allegedly pulled up beside them and continued to scream profanities and slurs: “Finna go report you f_____s.” (He pointed at one of the officers.) “Aye you, you a b___h. You can’t whoop me, you know you can’t whoop me.” The man later arrived at the police station to speak with the officers’ supervisor.

4:20 pm: A 48-year-old woman allegedly shoplifted merchandise valued at $528.90 from Kohl’s.

5:17 pm: After not stopping for traffic at the Winderly Lane intersection on Tussing Road, a Ford Mustang rear-ended a GMC Terrain. The 33-year-old Mustang driver had no driver’s license or insurance, and the vehicle plate was fictitious.

7:05 pm: The Loss Prevention Officer at Kohl’s reported that a 69-year-old man had shoplifted merchandise then climbed into the passenger’s side of a white Toyota Camry. Police allegedly saw the Camry take off at a high rate of speed through the parking lot with no headlights. The car reportedly ran the stop sign at Postage Drive then appeared to be ready to run the red light onto Hill Road, but it stopped at the intersection. The 55-year-old female driver was cited for reckless operation of a motor vehicle. The man was arrested for petty theft.

 

December 22

2:38 am: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Taurus near the intersection of Refugee Road and Farmstead Drive for reportedly weaving between lanes. The 32-year-old driver allegedly denied that he had been drinking alcohol despite the empty bottle of Don Julio and the odor emanating from the vehicle. After completing a field sobriety test, the man was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He declined the blood-alcohol test. One of his passengers, a 34-year-old man, was arrested on a warrant out of Franklin County.

8:33 pm: A 53-year-old woman in the George’s Creek neighborhood told police that she was sure she had applied the brake after backing out of her driveway, but she panicked when the Toyota Camry would not stop. She said that she could not recall anything else until the officers appeared to check on her. The Camry had come to rest partially inside her neighbors’ garage and partially on their front porch. The woman was transported to Mt Carmel Medical Group Diley Ridge with minor injuries. The neighbors were told that they could not return home until their house had been deemed stable by a structural engineer.

8:50 pm: Police arrested a man and two women for allegedly shoplifting from Kohl’s. The 46-year-old man was wanted on felony warrants out of both Franklin County and Cuyahoga County for failure to register as a sex offender. The 25-year-old woman was wanted on a warrant out of Grove City for theft, and police reportedly found drugs on the 30-year-old woman.

December 23

10:49 am: Overnight a wallet was stolen from a vehicle parked at the Pickerington Ridge Apartments.

1:01 pm: Fifth Third Bank contacted Fairfield County Adult Protective Services after an 81-year-old man requested that $350,000 from his bank account be paid in gold coins to a “Phillip Quan” from California. The bank denied the transaction.

3:29 pm: A 35-year-old woman allegedly stole two hoodies from Five Below.

7:33 pm: Packages valued at $140 were reported stolen from the front stoop of an apartment in Pickerington Ridge.

8:06 pm: The loss prevention officer at Kohl’s reported that a man had stolen $90 worth of merchandise. When police apprehended the man, he allegedly told them that his name was “Joshua”; however, the photo that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles had on file for “Joshua” did not match. When officers asked “Joshua’s” companion for the suspect’s real name, she reportedly responded that she “wasn’t sure and that she sometimes calls him ‘Brandon’, ‘Drew’ or ‘Joshua’.” Using his tattoos among other features, the Pickerington Police dispatcher discovered the suspect was actually a 32-year-old man named “Brian” who was wanted on a felony warrant out of Lancaster.

11:35 pm: A 43-year-old woman inside Kohl’s allegedly placed items into her purse without paying for them.

December 24

8:07 am: Druk International Grocery reported that overnight someone broke into the store, damaged the cash register, and stole the safe.

2:03 pm A 41-year-old man allegedly shoplifted $605.97 worth of clothing from Kohl’s. Pickerington Police apprehended him and transferred him to the Franklin County Sherriff’s Office where he was wanted on a felony warrant.

9:25 pm Someone shattered a window of a Ford Edge parked in the Marcus Theatre lot. Nothing was taken from inside the vehicle.

December 27

3:37 am An officer pulled over a Honda Civic near the intersection of Hill and Tussing Roads after discovering that its license plate belonged to a Honda CRV. The 26-year-old driver called his stepfather who owned both the Civic and the CRV and it was determined that the older man had accidentally switched the plates. The driver was arrested on a warrant out of Lancaster.

8:03 am Unknown perpetrators allegedly broke the back window of a Dodge Ram 1500 parked in the Hampton Inn lot and stole a Go Pro camera. A Chevrolet Silverado parked nearby also had a broken window. The owners of the Silverado told police all their daughter’s Christmas presents had been taken.

6:24 pm A man and a woman wearing face masks allegedly stole more than $1,000 of athletic wear and shoes from Kohl’s.

December 28

11:15 am A .380 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol was reportedly stolen from a Buick Enclave parked in the Drexel Place lot.

8:41 pm An officer pulled over a Lexus IS near the intersection of Hill Road and Stonecreek Drive South for an expired registration. The 32-year-old male driver had no insurance and was driving on an expired license.

10:26 pm Squeeks Bar and Grill reported that a large argument had erupted amongst the patrons. Police issued “No Trespass” orders to two men (ages 45 and 49).

10:45 pm A 17-year-old boy allegedly turned too sharply on Manchester Drive and crashed the Chevrolet Equinox that he was driving into a neighbor’s mailbox.
