April 6
12:31 a.m. — An officer was photographing the scene of an earlier accident near Taco Bell when they heard what sounded like another vehicle crash. The officer ran to the intersection of Hill Road and Stonecreek Drive South and found a Ford Explorer in the intersection and a Volvo XC40 in the grass in front of Zapata’s. Violet Township medics were requested, as the Volvo’s airbag appeared to be stained with a red substance.
After speaking with the upset 16-year-old driver and her three teenage passengers, the officer determined that none of the teens required medical attention. The red substance was identified as hot sauce. The girl said she was upset because she feared her mother’s reaction.
The girl was cited for reportedly turning left in front of the Ford, which was traveling straight through the intersection. She only had a learner’s permit.
1:32 a.m. — Officers were dispatched to Pickerington Ridge Apartments on a report of masked teenagers checking for unlocked car doors. Two vehicles had been rummaged through.
2:00 p.m. — Police issued a trespass notice to a 46-year-old man panhandling in the Kohl’s parking lot.
3:46 a.m. — While patrolling Lake’s Edge Apartments due to a recent increase in vehicle break-ins, an officer spotted two boys dressed in all black and wearing backpacks walking between buildings. When the officer approached, the boys fled. Backup units and a drone were deployed to assist in the search, but the boys were not found. Officers believe they may live in the neighborhood.
During the search, officers found two vehicles with interior lights on that appeared to have been entered. A backpack containing climbing equipment and chainsaw parts was also recovered.
2:58 p.m. — A resident of Cherry Hill reported that someone broke into his vehicle and stole his bank cards and checkbook.
April 7
1:47 p.m. — Police issued a trespass notice to a 36-year-old man who was allegedly riding a scooter inside the Kroger on Hill Road while shouting vulgarities at staff.
4:30 p.m. — A Pickerington woman received a call from a company called simplefastloans.com informing her that an unknown person had borrowed $988 using her personal information.
April 9
7:49 a.m. — A 43-year-old man was cited for driving without a license after his Jeep Patriot collided with a Honda Pilot while he was changing lanes on Hill Road near Interstate 70.
5:36 p.m. — The Kohl’s loss prevention officer reported a man leaving the store with stolen merchandise. Officers questioned the man in the parking lot, and he produced a receipt. However, a pair of shoes was not listed. The man allegedly told police that the cashier had not scanned the shoes, so he walked out with them.
April 10
3:31 a.m. — A 24-year-old man was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after the Genesis G70 he was driving allegedly struck two parked cars on Borland Street. He told officers he had consumed “a beer about an hour ago,” but police could see an open bottle of Corona in his vehicle.
4:45 p.m. — A white Chevrolet Malibu allegedly ran a red light at Tussing and Hill roads and struck a white Nissan Rogue that was turning left. Witnesses followed the Malibu to Taylor Road, where it looped back to Hill Road and traveled around the accident scene. Officers spotted the vehicle as it passed and identified the driver as the 26-year-old registered owner.
9:41 p.m. — After leaving Twins Tavern, a 35-year-old man allegedly backed his Honda Civic into an Acura MDX. The Acura’s driver told police the Civic then moved forward into a Volkswagen Tiguan before backing into the Acura a second time.
Police said the suspect ran behind the bar and climbed into the passenger seat of his girlfriend’s Jeep Cherokee. Officers stopped the Jeep and asked the man to exit the vehicle. After a field sobriety test, he was arrested for driving under the influence. At the station, his blood alcohol content allegedly measured 0.163bac. (Ohio’s legal limit is 0.08bac.)
April 11
2:00 a.m. — An officer pulled over a Kia Forte on Long Road, just west of Diley Road, because its license plate belonged to a Buick. The 33-year-old driver did not have a license, and the vehicle’s registration had expired in July.
12:56 p.m. — Staff at Old Bag of Nails contacted police to take possession of a Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 380 handgun. The firearm had one loaded magazine with six rounds, though there was no bullet in the chamber.
12:58 p.m. — Officers approached a Toyota Corolla parked near the corner of Columbus and Cross streets. The 35-year-old driver said she knew she had parked illegally, but officers informed her they were investigating a report from Circle K alleging that she and a 27-year-old male companion had taken a bottled soft drink without paying. The woman allegedly responded, “They called you for that?”
3:23 p.m. — Police were called to Pickerington High School Central after reports that an 18-year-old man had spit on another 18-year-old man.
9:36 a.m. — After stopping a Lexus allegedly traveling 52 mph in a 35-mph zone on Hill Road, an officer learned the 28-year-old driver had recently been cited for driving with a suspended license. The car was impounded, and the man was given a court date.
April 12
12:39 a.m. — Three teenage boys allegedly threw a popcorn bucket and a drink at a couple sitting near them in a Marcus Cinema theater.
9:58 a.m. — Four vehicles were involved in an injury crash on Hill Road, just north of the Interstate 70 bridge.
9:42 p.m. — Police issued a trespass notice to a 69-year-old man who was allegedly harassing underage waitresses at LongHorn Steakhouse.
