The Pickerington Lions Club will host its 2nd Annual Charity Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament on Saturday, April 11, inviting players of all experience levels to enjoy an evening of cards while supporting local charitable efforts.

Check-in begins at 5 p.m., with play starting at 6 p.m. The tournament features a $120 buy-in, with re-buys available during the first two hours of play. Of the entry fee, $80 goes to the jackpot prize pool and $40 supports Lions Club charities.

According to Lions Club member David Rosen, the event began as a way to create a new kind of fundraiser for the organization.

“It was my idea,” Rosen said. “I was looking for a new opportunity that we didn’t have to get sponsors for and a way to have fun.”

The tournament debuted in 2025, drawing 39 buy-ins and 13 re-buys, according to Lions member Craig Turner. The event generated $4,160 for the prize pool and $2,080 for the club’s charitable programs.

“Yes, we all had a great time — both the players and all of our Lions volunteers,” Turner said.

While the club has not yet seen enough registrations to know how many players from last year will return, Turner said they anticipate many participants will sign up again.

Cash payouts will go to the top 15 percent of players, with a maximum of 10 winners.

In addition to the poker tournament, the evening will include a Lions Club 50/50 raffle, and organizers hope to add a bourbon raffle as well. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and alcohol sales will be provided by the American Legion.

Rosen emphasized that the tournament is open to everyone.

“It’s a fun, friendly event,” he said. “All players are welcome.”

Participation is limited to 100 players, and organizers encourage early registration. Players can register online or in person.
