Johnson’s Real Ice Cream, a beloved central Ohio institution, will open its eighth location in Pickerington in May 2025. The new store will be located at 192 Hill Road North in the city’s Olde Village, breathing new life into a historic corner once home to a mid-century garage.

This announcement comes on the heels of last month’s news that Johnson’s will open a new location in Powell, Ohio, in early spring 2025. The Pickerington store marks another milestone in the company’s ambitious expansion plans as it commemorates 75 years of serving delicious, family recipe ice cream to the community.

With the addition of the Powell and Pickerington locations, Johnson’s will have more than doubled its central Ohio footprint in less than a year, expanding from three stores at the beginning of 2024 to eight stores by spring 2025. This rapid growth reflects the company’s commitment to serving its loyal customers and bringing its ice cream to new communities.

The Pickerington location boasts approximately 1,400 square feet of interior space, as well as a 748 square foot covered patio and a 678 square foot rooftop patio. This spacious layout offers ample room for customers to enjoy their favorite treats and provides a unique setting for parties and gatherings. The design preserves the mid-century charm of the building while offering modern amenities.

“As we approach our 75th anniversary, we’re excited to become part of the Pickerington community,” said Matt Wilcoxon, fourth-generation owner of Johnson’s Real Ice Cream. “With its unique rooftop patio and inviting design, our new location offers a great space for friends and neighbors to connect and enjoy delicious ice cream.”

Pickerington Mayor Lee Gray echoed the excitement about Johnson’s Real Ice Cream’s new location. “We continue to invest in downtown Pickerington, and the addition of Johnson’s brings significant value to our community,” Gray said. “Johnson’s shares our vision for revitalizing this historic location, once home to the Williamson Sunoco station, a family-run business that served Pickerington for 58 years. We’re excited to see how this project preserves the building’s unique character while transforming it into something truly special.”
