Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the movie on which it is based, Pickerington Community Theatre’s production of Young Frankenstein opens this Friday at the Wigwam Events Center.

“People who like Mel Brooks will love this show!” said Chris Gallaugher, the production’s director.

The musical-comedy follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen,” played by Ben Marteney), the grandson of the infamous mad scientist Victor Frankenstein. Upon discovering his grandfather’s lab and notes, Frederick brings a corpse to life to prove himself worthy of his family’s legacy. He is assisted by a hunchback named Igor (pronounced “Eye-gor,” played by Scott Clay), his beautiful lab assistant Inga (Lucy Hoy) and his housekeeper Frau Blücher (Erika Jackson).

Hilarity ensues when a mishap results in the creation of a Monster (Dave Zweibel) who disappears into the night with Frankenstein’s fiancée, Elizabeth (Elizabeth West). A mob of frenzied villagers hunt both the Monster and its creator.

Fans of the original 1974 Gene Wilder film, will be thrilled to experience iconic scenes including the iconic tap dance sequence to “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

However, this comedy is not appropriate for all audiences. It contains adult humor and language, including sexual innuendos and situations (it was created by Mel Brooks), a theatrical noose and mentions of hanging, and there will be flashing lights.

PCT’s Young Frankenstein will be presented at the Wigwam Event Center (10190 Blacklick-Eastern Road NW) from July 12 to July 21, on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.

Admission costs $19.00, or $17.00 for those 55 and older. PCT shows frequently sell out, so you are strongly encouraged to purchase your tickets online at pickeringtoncommunitytheatre.org/tickets or by calling 614-508-0036.

Next up, PCT will present the Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing from October 4th through 13th.
