Need a lawyer? Need a fashion icon? Why not both? This weekend, Legally Blonde: The Musical will be performed by Millersport Community Theatre, sponsored by Papa Boo’s.

Adapted from the 2001 film of the same name, Legally Blonde follows Elle Woods (Madeleine McNamara), a young fashion major with a bright future. Convinced her boyfriend Warner (Daniel Bernthold) is about to propose, she’s devastated when he breaks up with her instead—claiming she’s not “serious enough” to be his wife.

Determined to prove him wrong, Elle works hard to get into Harvard Law School. But does she succeed? You’ll have to come to the theater to find out!

The musical is upbeat, inspiring, and full of catchy songs—and it’s clear the cast has poured their hearts into the production.

“It’s really the perfect musical,” McNamara said. “It has everything—it’s got singing, it’s got dancing, it’s got dogs, and it’s got a good message of female empowerment, the friendship between women, and overcoming barriers. Come for a heartwarming story with really cool sets and costumes, a killer cast—and dogs!”

Director Johanna Whetstone agreed, adding that Legally Blonde is a fun musical with wide appeal. Eighty actors auditioned for the production.

“There is a wild amount of talent in this area that people just don’t know about,” Whetstone said. “People don’t really know about Millersport Community, but when they come out and see the quality of the show, they are very surprised to find that a small town could gather such talent. They’re going to see a show unlike any other—we have a very unique group.”

Performances will take place at the Millersport Elementary Auditorium (11850 Lancaster Street) on July 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. For guaranteed seating, purchase tickets online at www.mctohio.com. All tickets are $15, plus a $1.50 processing fee.

The show features a live orchestra made up of gifted local musicians.
